Hey thanks. We're getting *somewhere*. I killed the DLL. Game launches fine without. Then I patched it in again and launched the game. Crashed as before. Works again if I remove the DLL. I'm on SimTools 2.1 by the way - could that be a factor?

Hmm, I actually haven't tried the latest version of Aerofly on the actual simulator that we use, but only on a stationary PC that had an old version of SimTools installed. So it could be that the last update of Aerofly is the thief (which the developer said he would fix in a future update)
Which version is the external_dll that you have there?

    @noorbeast any idea?

I've emailed IPACS to see if its something they can fix. I hope so - Its one of radioproffi's DOF Reality platforms and I only bought it to play FS2 on. Its a first time install of SimTools 2.1 - just done in the last day or so. Latest Fs2 beta.

Using a beta with motion plugins is not a good idea, as plugins are built against stable releases.

I think they updated the Aerofly SDK just the other day and it needs an update of the plugin. I didn't have the time to mess with it yet.

Thanks for the input. I reverted to latest stable. No luck. Torsten replied with the following. It looks like I need to be patient and wait for @value1 - my birthday isn't actually until Sunday ;-)

"if you use external DLLs, please ensure you
are using up to date DLLs as they need to be recompiled
when used with the latest Aerofly version."

Thanks @value1 - I just installed 2.04 but the patch is still crashing the FS2 executable, unless I remove the DLL. I checked the details on the DLL in Documents\Aerofly FS 2\external_dll and it does say 2.0.4. I'm very new to this - could it be something else I'm doing? I'm on the latest stable release. No beta.

Are you running Windows in 32bit mode?

Brand new i7 running in 64bit. FS2 probably wouldn't cope with 32bit I'd guess, especially flying over that new york scenery. I take it the Feb 10th release works fine for you with 2.0.4. Did it crash too with 2.0.3?

Anyone else having trouble or success?

I've been in touch with Torsten at IPACS and he's looked at the crash log file and says it must be the DLL. Is anyone else using 2.0.4 without problems?

My AeroFly2 crashes when I use the Oculus with Steam

If I start AeroFly 2 without the Oculus, the Motion-plugin works

As soon as I start ÁeroFly over Steam with the VR and at the same time use SimTools,
the start menu screen comes, but at the start of the Fly the game aborts crash

Then I have to delete the complete AeroFly2 folder in documents

After that, AeroFly2 works again until I use SimTools again and a new crash follows

@vsp19 you're right ! It's a VR issue. I didn't test that properly. In fact I did launch a few times in non-VR mode but forgot i'd set Steam properties to force it into Oculus anyway. I currently have FS2 patched for SimTools and everytime I launch it the main EXE crashes. I just launched in 2D mode and it played fine, connected to SimTools and everything responded correctly.

@Archie - I guess your teamviewer test was in 2D mode?
@value1 - Does this information help?

Update: Just tested in SteamVR mode - also crashes

    Interesting!
Can you please try this dll. It's the original dll from FS2.
Please copy the dll to your

    C:\Users\You\Documents\Aerofly FS 2\external_dll\
Delete any other dll in this directory. The dll will not provide motion data to SimTools but open a window with various data. And I'm wondering if it crashes in VR mode too.
Thank you for your feedback in advance!
I can't (or at least don't know how to) run FS2 in VR mode.

Yes it does crash. I see the window appear and the single line "Messages = 0". Then it crashes

    Just to be crystal clear:
    The
aerofly_fs_2.exe crashes in VR mode when the aerofly_fs_2_external_dll_sample.dll is present in the ..\Documents\Aerofly FS 2\external_dll\ directory even when SimTools not running?

Yes. I just double checked. I shut down simtools and first ran in non VR mode. Lots of data appeared in the DLL's message panel. Then I closed FS2 and relaunched in Oculus mode and the main FS2 EXE crashed.

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Aerofly FS 2 Flight Simulator\bin64\aerofly_fs_2.exe

@Phil Hulme - Yes. 2D mode via Teamviewer. I'm actually home tonight so I will test the plugin in full VR and see what happens.

I've upgraded the plugin so will see what goes on and report back here. We WILL get to the bottom of it :)
