    Hey guys,

Is it even possible to adjust or fix the backlash in these motor/wormgear? :( mine has so much backlash.... 65cm arm and there's about 5mm of backlash... seem too much?

From the outside, doesn't even look like the worm gear are meant to be taken apart, there's no screw... I can drill them out, but wonder if it's even possible to fix the backlash or no?

    thanks

You can drill out the rivets to open the gearboxes and then bolt them back together.

All wormdrive gearboxes will have some play, for lubrication purposes, in the video is what I regards as normal, but the longer the CTC the more noticeable the free play is.

A gearbox will always have backlash, you can reduce the negative effects to your sim by moving the pivot point a bit out of balance, so there is always pressure on the gearbox when your sim moves around the neutral position.
A much better solution especially for flight games are linear actuators with ballscrews and stepper motors. Ballsrews don't have backlash and stepper motors allow for more sensitive movements.

If a ballscrew got backlash or not depends on his precission class.
C5 class and above got no backlash c7 class and below got backlash.
C7 is mostly sold on ebay and got 0,05mm backlash

Tear one open today, what a pain. The gap between the worm screw and gear is understandable. Turn out there a 2mm slop in worm screw do it slide back and fort, this seem to be a manufacture flaw. This is the culprit thats causing most of yhe backlash. Added a washer.. we'll see how it work. Only 2mm of backlash now with 65mm arm.

Yes. So there's two bearings on each end that hold the worm screw right. This whole assembly move back and forth because it look like when they machine the shaft they didn't make it long enough. So I put a SHIM right in front of the bearing, all it does it make one bearing 2mm thicker and now the worm screw won't be able to move back and forth any more.

I will take a picture when I tore apart the other two motor tomorrow.
