I've looked at photos you posted in my thread and just in case you don't see my answer there, I will say it here also:

YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE WAY THE MAX232 IS INSERTED. YOU INSERTED IT WRONG WAY, TAKE A NEW ONE AND FLIP IT 180 DEGREES!

Or you can try with the one you have already, maybe it's not dead :)

This is why you should post all your stuff in one thread, many people don't read all posts in every thread, but on the other side, many of us do read everything (lucky you :))

    @ micma80
I've used the boards from opening posts for AMC and DSMhb.
They are correct ones, and you can create exact part list by looking at board silk layer like I did.
Most of us needed to read all the posts which can be frustrating, but at the end, result will be operational sim :)

    Where has your board been?

Did your cat/dog pee on it? :D

How hot is the regulator and when is it hot?

I'm using separate power for LCD, so my LM is cold as ice.
Maybe you have some flux left on PCB, and if your LM is so hot as you say, that could be the smelly thing :)
Another thing you could try to lower the temp of LM is to use 6V PSU. I'm using an old AT PSU (not ATX) and it gives 5.6V, so my LM is dong very little work and stays cold (I could probably power the LCD from AMC as well).

if I move the calibration to the left and right, move both motors!
