    Hi Scott,

I am not at all worried, these winch motors are amazing. And of course the two wing 32" TVs are amazingly light. Either they are sooo cheap that there is no actual metal content in the units or they have come up with a new lightweight alloy (for 142.00 which do you recon?) :)

They are called "Seikei" TVs, never heard of them but they do work very very well....the one that I have does anyway, not sure if the new one will as well. I had the Seikei mounted as the primary until yesterday and had no problems at all with the mounting system.

The three monitor setup is finished. I have to admit to being a bit disappointed. Although there is a greater field of view it does not seem to be a greater benefit than using TrackIR. But it does look cool as heck :D

… and give your eyes some time to accustom to the new setup. I'm pretty sure, you won't give it away anymore once you're used to it. :)

    Hi @Historiker, very cool!
I'm in the middle of doing my traction loss addition and moving my motors to the rear. Can you tell me what your maximum distance of travel from your centre line is for your traction loss David?

Mike, I am not out in the shop right now (huge thunderstorms passing overhead) but I believe the total travel is around 12" so 6" off center. I could do more but the arm of the motor can only swing 6" either way. This is why I think that I will go with a chain drive system instead as there would be no restriction on movement then ;)

Nick, not my fault, I take no blame (credit?!) for your addictions :D

Would it be worth looking into a pantograph style lever to increase the travel on the traction loss? Or would that risk slowing the movement down a little too much?

Hi Barry, sorry for the terribly late response. Right now the traction loss is restricted by the lever, as you noticed, but a better replacement, in my opinion, would be a chain drive setup as SeatTime uses. I have used it before for my CNC router table and the movement is precise and quick. I just have not gotten around to it yet ;)

    A quick update:

The simpit has been moved to it's new (and final?) home:

We cleared out our upstairs library (don't have one downstairs that is just what we call it, :) ) and installed my simpit. The room is rather small but my wife would not let me take over any of the three unused bedrooms o_O

Everything is working great, other than my Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 RS (now that is a mouth full) becoming suddenly and seemingly irrevocably dead last week. I contacted Fanatec and they said "Send a video" in other words "Prove it!" :D So I did. Still waiting to hear back from them.

I got impatient and so ordered their Club Sport Wheel base and BMW GT rim. Ok, I know....I have had two of their wheels die in less than a year (Porsche wheels) why would I trust them again?! Well....because it is just so darned Pretty! ;)

The CSW and rim arrived today....holy crud is it a nice rig....never felt that quality of force feedback before. To me it is well worth the price, I swear it has taken a whole second off my lap times...I kid you not (ok...maybe a little).

Here is a teaser photo, I am going to start a new thread with information on this and only this build from start to finish. This thread is a confusion of different builds/parts/ideas, etc.

By the way, the paint in the hall is green not blue, but my iPhone is a cheap piece of....er...stuff (must have been made in the same Chinese factory as the Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 RS) :grin

Hey @Historiker, Where did you get the plastic gear that your pot is connected to on your sim? I am going to do the same thing on my motion platform. (same winch motor set-up) What is the size of the gear (width/circumference/teeth?) Would it be OK or not to use a smaller diameter size gear? Take care, deskoilot

    Hi Terry,

It was actually @eaorobbie that came up with the idea but the gear is from an R/C helicopter. The main rotor gear. They are about 6.00 each from Century Jet hobbies (I think). I do not have my other computer set up right now or I would find the exact information for you.

I am still out of the hobby until the house is finished, we have the shop building, garage and apartment over the garage complete. The house will, hopefully, be done by spring and I can get back into the hobby.

Hey Historiker, how is the house remolding going? I know you are busy with other things right now but I have a couple of questions for you. First of all I purchased a winch assy and converted it over so now it looks like the ones you were or are using now. First question, when I check the movement of the actuator arm using the SMC3 utls, it seems that the arm is hardly moving (moves about one to two inches) using the range of my pot. Is there something I am missing or maybe something I need? the gear I purchased I believe is just like yours. got it from Century Hobbies. I guess I only have one question for now LOL. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family
