My dad is a pilot and he's getting old and will probably lose his liscence in the next couple years. He loves VR flying so I want to make him a 6dof platform so he can still feel like he can go flying and it wont be so devastating for him. My only concern is that he's an old man... He's not going to want to climb into a crazy stewart platform every time he wants to go flying but its also the only design that looks like it would create the effect I'm after. Has anyone made one of these that is easy for an old man to climb into?

I faced a similar situation with my father and I guess what I would like to pass on, and it is a bit person specific, is that while a 6DOFR is in many respects the gold standard, even those very familiar with motion simulation can be fooled/enjoy a carefully crafted immersive experience, if you give the right sort of feedback cues, even simplistically: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/teddles-vr-haptic-rig.13821/

I am so glad my dad got to spend hours in his favorite immersive experience, War Thunder, in a rig that was tailored to him and his health constrained capabilities, particularly as he is no longer with us.

You can get it to lower and design it so there are no sides
