I just finished constructing my diy motion simulator, and everything seemed fine until i put a little bit of weight on it. I didnt even sit down in the seat, but just pushed a little bit on each side to test the strength of the motors. Both motors give out under even just a little bit of pressure, and then turn back on after closing and opening smc3. I also noticed that the motor drivers are very hot, but I have seen others use them with these same motors so I figured it would be okay? Here are my components:

    Arduino Uno
    24v 250w 75rpm wheelchair motors
BTS7960 43a motor drivers (one per motor)
24v 20a power supplies (one per motor)

Let me know if there is anything that seems to be wrong with my setup. I am new at this so it could just be a common mistake on my part. upload_2025-9-5_23-34-38.png

Can you please post pictures of your rig, and key design aspects, such as motor placement distance from the pivot, and lever CTC distance.

Can you also please post pictures of your SMC3 settings running the Sine 'Out Mode' test.

The motor shaft is ~10 inches to the side, and ~5.5 inches forward. The CTC distance is 3.5 inches.

The weight of the entire part resting on the joint is ~50 lbs. I probably only have to put ~50 lbs of force on the side of the rig to get a motor to fail.

I dont have the power turned up too high on smc3 so the green line is not matching.

The motors dont fail when it is doing the sine test even with the PWMmax set up to 120-150, only when i add a tiny bit of weight directly above the motor. I also want to mention that I can be in a sitting position and it doesnt fail until it has movement. Usually it is the motor on the left hand side that gives out first.

What are the motor specs? It might be better if the motors were further away deform the ujoint, they seem awfully close.

It is a beefy full frame rig with limited inherent design leverage.

As @Joe Cortexian suggests you could move the motors, but before doing so try a smaller lever CTC by drilling another hole 25mm closer to the motor and see how much of a difference it makes.

Your SMC3 settings show an overshoot, which suggests further setting refinement is required.

Thank you, I will try that.

I am not sure if I need to create a new thread for this or if anyone can help, but I am now having issues with Simtools. I get an error that the update file could not be unzipped. I have tried running it with administrator access, with windows firewall/protection off, restarted pc, reinstalled windows, and its still happening. Is there something I am missing? I just spent money for the liscense so I want to get it working soon.

I have gone through the first link you sent and tried everything, and I cant back up my install because I wiped windows so now the file is not there.

I sent a message to yobuddy, should I just wait for their response?

    Thank you for your help.

I just decreased the ctc length to ~1.75 inches, or somewhere around half the previous length. It can now support my full weight.

I also think i forgot to mention that the motor on the left side was much weaker than the one on the right. I noticed the motor driver got around 30 degrees farenheit hotter than the other, so I replaced it and all is going well.

I will test more once i can get simtools working and will stop posting here unless something else weird happens.

    Thanks for your help!

Sorry to keep bothering you here, but now I am having another issue.

I got simtools v3 downloaded and setup and everything worked good in testing. All the motors are functioning correctly. I setup Forza Horizon 5 because its the only game I have right now besides LFS, but it did not work even though it was setup correctly. I tried LFS but it didnt work either. I set up simtools before I reset windows and everything connected fine, so I think im doing things correctly. But now v3 randomly crashed and I cannot add new games to it. It gave me the attached error message.
    upload_2025-9-6_23-52-6.png

So, I downloaded simtools v2.6 and got it working in testing, but that one will not connect to LFS either. It also looks like you need to pay for plugins in v2.6? So I didnt get a chance to test FH5.

My antivirus/firewall settings are all off.

Let me know if there is anything I can do about v3, or if I am doing something wrong when connecting to games.

Also wanted to mention that I tried to reinstall v3 and now I am getting the update file could not be unzipped message again.

In SimTools v2 and v3 LFS has to be run in first person mode before patching it for motion: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...run-in-first-person-mode-before-patching.365/

SimTools v3 needs to be registered for any plugin other than LFS to work, have you done that: https://simtools.us/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/QuickStart-Guide-for-SimTools3.pdf

If v3 was working, but then crashes after messing with Forza Horizon 5, what exactly did you do?

Yes there is a separate cost for v2 plugin access, or if you have enough you can use forum activity coins, please see the FAQs here: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/coins-and-how-to-download-plugins.2/

I am messing around with v2 and I got it to work with LFS.

V3 didnt exactly crash because I was messing with forza 5, it was just during that time. After it crashed it gave me the error i posted before every time I opened the app. I tried to delete and reinstall the app, however I now get the error shown:
    upload_2025-9-7_2-21-31.png

This is where I got stuck last time, and is what caused me to reinstall windows.

This is usually where it can detect that you are online, but it is not able to download files from simtools.us.
Are you running a vpn by chance?

I am not. I will try to disable as much network security as I can or use a hotspot. Ill message back if it doesnt work. Thanks!
