6dof servo project

    for school i am making a full scale 6dof motion sim but instead of making it whit normal dc motor i am making it with servo's. my question is: am i going to need a motor driver or can i just couple it to a power supply and my arduino?

    Hi, short answer - you will need motor driver/drivers. Recommend you have a good look at the Sites Projects/FAQ area - building a working full size 6DOF is not as simple as it may first seem to the uninitiated.

    the school will invest in to my project. the construction will be made with materials from school and fortunately we have 6 used servo's from a robot arm.

    I found a video explain how to use servo (an industrial ones) with arduino.

    Translation:
    Sending pulses and direction from arduino to control it's speed and direction in open loop.
    Arduino needs to use a PLC interface between it's pins and the servo for signal level translation.


    This is not close to any useful way to control a servo. No closed loop or positioning... Perhaps if you add external potentiometer to measure some angle rotation or position of an actuator that the motor is attached to?
