It takes a lot of Newtons to move 100kgs at simulation speed around 400 - 700 m/s, as unlike a 2DOF there is often no post to take the weight. Hence powerful AC motors tend to be the norm in traditional 3DOF heave designs.

I would suggest going the AC route. @speedy has already suggested 1/2hp 3phase motors with VFD inverters.

There is 1NM needed to move 100kgf with an 1605 ballscrew.
    For a speed beteen 400/700mm sec you need a 1610 balscrew (500mm sec @3000rpm)And 2NM.
I recomend a 1hp motor To get that speed and force.

I'm using the Automation Direct for my inverters and my 1hp MicroMax motors.................THESE MUST BE INVERTER DUTY Motors, not merely induction type.
Inverter Duty will hold up to the massive amount of start/stops - induction motors will do it, but not last nearly as long..............
The Automation Direct "Inverters" state that for "our" use in motion sims, frequent forward/reverse movements, that an "Inverter Duty Motor" is required.

    Good luck,

    Tom

    @misoswan ... I recommend you the above 3DOf crank arm concept ... and for a good lifting/moving power use a center spring with a U-joint .
see our friend @cthiggin 's project ... It's really perfect that way :thumbs

those motors are not ready for a front mounting flange ... so there is no way you can mount such gearboxes to them even the correct size .

I prefer the SEW motors as they are ready assembled and the gearbox can provide enormous torque in the output shaft (crank arm) with a minimum motor HP .

there are tones of such used with good condition motors in UK ...

    here is a 3/4HP faster motor ...

Depending on how much you want to spend, I would definitely go with a servodrive (not a vfd) and matching servo motor with a light core, made for rapid position changes. A motor in the 80 framesize range should be perfect.

    Pros:
    Easy setup - turnkey solution.
best precision (encoder included directly in the motor)
    best acceleration / direction-changes
    huge selection to choose from.
    built in powersupply available.

    Cons:
    price..

ps: if you are adventurous, ebay may be you friend - but do your homework - there are lots of pitfalls and incompatibility between products, which is why i would recommend contacting an automation company and get a package deal.

    Cheers

    Something like:
    http://www.servocomponents.co.uk/rotary-motors/brushless
The XBR34 is an 80 size frame and looks like a good contender. I'm shure you can contact them directly to get exactly what you eed.

    http://www.servocomponents.co.uk/servo-amplifiers/copley
Here the "xenus" drive seems like a good fit for the above motor. And it takes 240v ac directly so no need for a powersupply...

I have no idea if the above company is is good/cheap it just an random example from the uk - do your own digging :)

    Cheers

That is related to your mechanical design of your sim as they are all can be used ...
    just start your design ...

Or maybe you can go with DC motors with similar designs like this ... @prilad has done it very good and very simple ...

What [base and top plate-form design] are you going to DIY or use ?
with or without a center spring ?
you haven't confirm that choice yet ... you may need 1hp more or less .
