    Hi Guys and Gals ;)

Well since this is my first post let me introduce my self a little. I became fascinated with motion simulators after I

purchased a Ocolus DK2 played around with a few games and then wanted to try a few racing car games. After buying a cheap

static rig with thrust master wheel and pedals to help with the immersion I started researching motion simulators.

I looked at all sorts of different setups, watched lots of videos and was going to go down the path of using SCN5, but

after having a few long chats with @eaorobbie I've decided to use worm drive motors 12V and JRK's.

So far I have purchased the following:

    2 x Worm Drive Motor 12V/24V 200W, 180 RPM, 20Nm Torque

2 x Pololu Jrk 12v12 USB Motor Controller with Feedback (12Amp)

    2 x Flexible Shaft Couplers ** Can't remember what size I ordered **

    2 x 12V 40A - 480W power supplies

My current static rig is a pagian import gt extreme V2

The plan is to attach a platform to hold the motors, psu's and controllers and then build a base for the seat to mount to.

In the next day or two I will take some photos and provide some sketches possibly :)

I'll keep you posted and thank you for building such a great community.

** I've had to remove my links, I'll add them back later when I can - Please forgive if this doesn't make sense, so tired....

    Cheers,

    -Frank

Your heading down the right track, remember to purchase a strong universal drive joint from a car wrecker as your seat pivot. You want no twisting in that joint under load. All the best in your build.

Welcome and good luck with your build.
These motors and Jrk's are a very popular combination and many people successfully use them on their machines.

A good basis @madgino, I look forward to seeing the design and following your project.

From your description of bolting on a frame I am guessing it will be a shoulder mount design? That would seem a very practical way to go.

@noorbeast - Yes it will be a shoulder mount design.

Can someone recommend what pots to use, I read somewhere some hall effects from element14 I believe or some from RS Components.

Can someone possibly provide a link to what's recommdended?

@bsft - I suspect you have used both, is there a reason why you would choose one over the other?

Do you mean hall effects compared to pots?
If so, I found with the hall effects I bought from element, they didnt quite seem to get the target line properly, and after fiddling with PID for ages,I changed them to pots and the target line was a lot closer. For me, I found the hall effects seemed to have a maybe 5% extra tolerance that didnt really affect the motion, but it did cause me issues with overshoot and PID settings.
For me, pots do the job spot on.
That and the hall effects I bought are 180 deg reading range, pots are 360 deg.
Up to you what you want to use.
Also, the possibility of "noise" produced by pots and hall effects being "quiet" again, for me, no difference. The only thing I will state is that 360 deg pots like the ones listed work spot of with NO "noise".
Some cheaper pots like $4 270 deg turn didnt read as well. hence using more costly pots.

Alright, Well I have been busy with work and also slack.

A few weeks ago @eaorobbie and I put the simulator together. If it wasn't for him, this would have never been possible.

It's still a work in progres, but it works really well. I have a few things I need to sort out, mostly cosmetically.

I'll post some pictures for now, if you have questions please feel free to ask.

We had a little issue so had to make some adjustments with the postions of the motors, I asked to make it has compact as possible, but still be a seat mover. So in the end we had to move the seat forward a little and motors a little further back and outwards if that makes sense. These 25:1 just couldn't continuously keep up with the weight put on them.

You will notice the different placement of the uni-joint holder for the chair between design and finished product.

I've very happy with the way it has come out so far, I want to pull it back apart, paint and put some checkered plate on the floor.

Also need to put the JRK's in a nice box with fans, I just got to excited and wanted to play !!!

If you have any suggestions or questions I would be happy to hear from you.

    Cheers,

    madgino

P.S The guy in the photo is not me, it's a metal fabricator *hint*, *hint* :)

    Nice work @madgino.

I hope you can do a follow up with a video of your rig in action.

What CTC are you running on the levers?
