    Just really a 'heads-up' on the availability of 12V DC Geared motors with 60:1 ratio gearboxes from Motion Control Products. These are going to be ideal motors for sim motion projects :-

    Voltage: 12V

    Hi,
    If I wanted to build a 2DOF rig would I buy a left and right hand motor, or just 2 of the same? Just when I thought I had this down, something else to confuse me :) Thanks for any insight you can provide!

    I would recommend a left and right one then both levers will be either on the outside or the inside, keeping things symmetrical is recommended. IMO

    the motors are pushing the limits of the JRKS, considering most of the time we push the motors about 2 to 2.5 times to rated current.
    A good PID, motor settings and proper profile will help.

    Yes @noorbeast , got your info! And @SeatTime I did see the australian dealer for these motors., though at 65 quid IW as thinking they may be cheaper even with postage as the Aussie motors will come to a cost of about 200 each. Now there is a confusion for me amongst all this and that being what are the ratings of the motors themselves, some ahve given me the link as below

    and then having to buy the wormdrives at 60:1 ratio or do I buy the motor you (@SeatTime) suggested? Are there particular speeds and torque ratings I should be looking at?

    Depends on what type of sim you are going to build and the amount of load on the motor. For a seat mover, I use the standard 25:1 gearbox which comes with the motiondynamics cheap 200W motor. The Motor and 60:1 gearbox are dearer if you were going to build a full balanced frame, but it is a better quality motor and all steel gearbox. Although some people seem to be having issues with these higher current motors and JRKs, but I cannot comment as I only have the cheap version (I did although fit a 60:1 steel gearbox to the cheap motor for my heave module - works fine) .

    It does depend a little on what you settle on as a final design @kanuk.

    You are a big bloke so anything other than a shoulder mount seat shaker and you really will need to look at the bigger motors/60:1 gearboxes.

    Like @SeatTime I converted the 200W motors to 60:1, but that resulted from underestimating the Fanatec controller weight implications on a compact design.

    Well, Considering that my first need is primarily for the use of Elite Dangerous and secondarily a sim for GRID AUTO, a shoulder mounted seat shaker may be in order. It seems to the most efficient of all the designs... WOuld this assumption be correct? And should I start a build thread so I can get q' and A;s answered as I go on this build journey?
