Question New here, 3DOF/2DOF+traction loss intro

    Good morning gents,

    I am new here and looking to build a 3DOF or 2DOF with traction loss. I am a design engineer(Lots of sheet metal experience) by trade with access to laser cutting machines, press breaks, pem insert machines and welding as well as Solidworks. I am working to finish the 3D model but still learning a lot through this forum and various websites. Side note, i can also model stuff up for people via Solidworks, I am in the process of getting my LLC and setting everything up, so if you want your idea model and drawn and dont have the know-how or programs I might be able to help.

    Areas im still trying to understand:
    1- what level of movement is ideal for roll pitch and yaw? currently have +- 7.5 degress of yaw possible in the design.
    2- Trying to get coins so i can work out this sim tools app. I need to figure out ideal mounting points for use with crab pot motors and if a smaller motor can be used for the traction loss.
    3- im a 350lb dude so will this sim work for me or should I look into bigger motors/shorter moment arm(less roll and pitch movement). where to focus increased structural design(where is the common failure points).
    4- new to arduino, im sure there plenty of resources on this and ive been wanting a project to cut my teeth on in the arduino world. not currently worried about this as i want to get the physical rig design first.
    5- what power supply will be needed? i surely cant run this off the same breaker as my desk top computer as i believe with the power my monitor and computer takes up i near full load on this breaker already. Do you guys run a cord to the adjacent room? At my lake house this will be near a breaker and ill likely add a dedicated breaker for the rig.

    If anyone has any of thoughts on these things please comment. Ill be uploading a picture of the model so far. I just started yester morning between tasks so its not nearly as far as id like.

    Heres a quick snip it of the model. the highlighted green is the top frame that will be connected to 2 crab pot motors. I will be removing some supports once I find out some seat dimensions for bolting. the middle frame below it has an upgraded 4+2 skateboard wheel set up for traction loss and the wheels are perpendicular to the pivot point which should make for reduction in crab walking of the wheel. the two wheels at the very rear are intended for ease of moving the rig(i think only one wheel is visible but you get the idea). need to find dims for a U-joint so i can accurately model and find out what my full range of motion could be/make adjustments to height.

    How much motion you need depends on the design, speed and precision of motion are far more important than range of motion, particularly with VR.

    You don't need coins to test out SimTools, it comes with the fully functional Live For Speed plugin, specifically for testing purposes.

    There are plenty of Arduino code choices, but I suggest you try SMC3 first, as it has a graphical settings tool, is widely used by members here and supports a wide range of controller hardware: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/arduino-code-for-use-with-various-hardware-and-simtools.31/

    What PSUs are needed depends on design and hardware choices.

    Then ask questions related to your planned project, once you have a basic understanding and project design, before you start ordering anything, that way members can suggest suppliers, depending on where you are in the world, and possibly design alterations before you commit.

    Thanks, ill keep digging in and do some more research. i need to get the simtools working and look at those design vs physics tradeoffs so i can complete the design process at this stage. ill follow your tips for the simtools.
