First of all sorry for my english. I'm from Brazil and I'm using a translator.

I'm planning to build my first 2dof wiper simulator for X Plane and I have some questions.

First is the motor itself, I saw some projects using 12v wiper and others 24v wiper. Here, the price difference is big between 12v and 24v.

I'm planning to use 12v wiper. I only do one "seat move". To make the engine work easier, I'm planning to use aluminum in the structure (with as little weight as possible).

I'm going to buy a 12v wiper from a popular car (Corsa wiper motor), so I ask you... Will it handle it (I weigh around 80kg)?

    Motor Example:[IMG]
In my understanding, a 2dof simulator for Flight will make lighter (less abrupt) movements, since I don't usually fly with stunt or military planes.

Additionally, I have some doubts about the layout.
Motors in front or behind the chair (does it matter?)?

Another thing, I see some models with short engine arms, and others with long arms reaching practically shoulder height. Considering I'm going to try to make the top pretty balanced, what's the difference between the short and long arm?

    Example Short Arm:

(I really like this compact model above and would like to do something about it...)

Example large arm at shoulder height:

I intend to use it with VR, so from what I've read in reports, the movement doesn't need to have a lot of amplitude.

Finally, in my house I don't have a lot of space available, so I'm planning to make the simulator as compact as possible. Maybe even a little collapsible or foldable to be able to store when not in use.

Would you like suggestions for compact layouts if possible?

That's it. My main doubts are about the 12v engine and the simulator layout. I really don't want to have to use a 24v wiper motor because of the cost of the motor and the cost of the power supply.

I appreciate any opinion and help.

    Thanks

Wiper motors can work but are not that powerful, so they need a lot of inherent design leverage, like the shoulder mount and are not really suited to a compact design, which requires a lot more motor torque.

    Thank you so much.
    I will try Sim Calc.

I remembered another question, if you can help me... how to size the power supply for a 12v motor wiper?
    I don't know other specs.

How do I know how many watts/amps I need for the motors?

When used in motion simulators DC motors generate significant power spikes in fast and repeated reversals.

You either need plenty of PSU overhead, say 600w, or use something like a battery which can take those spikes, in which case all the PSU needs to be able to do is keep the battery charged.
