I keep experimenting with bowden cables thanks to @SeatTime's inspiration. Here is my attempt at a G-Head system for acceleration forces only. I've incorporated this into my overall setup and it is a welcome addition aside from being a bit cumbersome. As you can see, it uses a high strength single RC Servo and some bowden cables, and 3d printed mounts for my Oculus CV1. It may look a bit sluggish in the video but it seems perfect for simulating the acceleration force on your neck. I did go through many mount designs and the hardest part was allowing for full head motion while driving and also ensuring that the surge forces pulling my head back did not alter my view while driving. Fun project!

    really nice achievement!

It doesn't look sluggish at all! rather reactive and powerful :thumbs

I added it to the FAQ (among gSeat designs).

Would you mind to share a video in game? :)

Happy to make one - but will have to wait until I get my G2 preorder and redesign the attachment. Already got rid of my Rift CV1. Can’t wait for the upgrade!

I've given up my preorder of G2 (I made it in july...)

Would this device behave like a seat belt tensioner? I.e. would it pull back on braking? Or would you use it in a different way?

It’s similar but different. A seat belt tensioner tightens with braking to simulate what happens IRL when you brake - your body moves forward which results in tension by the belts on your shoulders. I built this system to try and better simulate acceleration. IRL with rapid acceleration you get pushed back in your seat. This system simulates that by pulling your head and neck back into the seat with acceleration. It doesn’t do anything during braking. I used RC servos so that it would be very safe and not injury me. If I really resist it, I can stall the motor but it generates a sufficient force to be convincing.

Very cool idea. Yeah, it definitely makes sense to use a light duty servo so that the stalling can act as a safety mechanism. I don't have a VR headset, but I think I may try connecting a cheap $5 servo between the chair and the back of a baseball hat. Thanks for the inspiration!)

Sorry if I missed it, but what kind of RC servo did you use?
