I don’t get distracted by the lenses. I think where @Chriss is going is with god rays but in daylight or brightly-lit scenes, they really arent visible at all to be distracting.

On night tracks with lots of headlights and track lights, it might be more of an issue.

I have a scratch in my glasses (not VR-glasses, regular glasses) and get the god-rays all day. You get used to it I think.

And about VR in general, because you can aim where you are looking at you will never be blocked by a carpillar or by the edge or limit of your monitor. And because you can move your head in stead of being static, you do have an extra dimension, an extra way to look around. It makes it a lot easier for your brain to determine the shape of a corner, curbstone or anything else. I think it is a great advantage over a 2D image, which only had resolution as an advantage.

So yes, I do think VR makes you faster. But is does not look sharp enough for me.

You are absolutely right, in any case, I have the same point of view as you.
Personally, my lap times have improved significantly since I play VR.
Maybe it's due to the experience I'm taking, but I think it's more thanks to VR.

    Probably the VR.
I had the same thing when I went from a 22" 35 degrees fov to a 27" 60 fov: a lot of improvement. And that small step is nothing compared to moving to VR.
I wished the resolution was better, that (and the price) is the only dealbreaker for me now. (note: I only tried the Oculus Rift with different games).

Also had a rift which stopped working ......a few Chinese ones ...ahhhh
Still beta experimental , it’s line 3D tv ....get it to work without glasses and you’ve got my $$

What I read is that the OSW creates a large electromagnetic field capable of distorting stuff like VR units. Have you tried using the OSW without force feedback? Did it work then?

Yeah it did in fact I pull out all other USB connections when I’m on VR, I can’t use it for sim racing though as my rig [500 kg] has other motors etc was

    My rig with THANOS AMC

Lol, with a rig like that it is no wonder you have a lot of interference. I think you need to shield A LOT to get that working properly. Nice rig thought!

I think that VR makes you faster, but turning on the motion rig makes me think about the motion more than driving so at this moment, motion makes make slower :p

Lets get serious .....it’s natural to have motion just like in real life driving ...full stop.

VR has absolutely made me faster, more accurate, and far more immersed than any amount of flat panels ever could.

The ability to look into the apexes of every corner cannot be under-appreciated.

Removing every real world distraction or out of place item in your environment is what seals the immersion.

In VR, it doesn't matter what your rig looks like, what room you are in, the lighting, etc...it all just disappears and you are in whatever environment the game/sim puts you in.

One other HUGE side benefit is also that with sim racing, every car cockpit is different, as is every wheel & dashboard.

If you think about it, you don't need to have anything more than a single physical wheel rim for your rig, because you now have hundreds of virtual ones, as well as displays & gauges.

That saves a lot of $$$$!

And once you add motion???? Fuggetaboutit!!!! That's the ULTIMATE cherry on top!!!! :thumbs

But is it more natural to have no motion, or to have wrong motion? That is the question... Because you can come close, but not 100% true.

I guess this will depend on person to person, the VR did not necessarily make me faster time wise, but it did help me become more consistent! VR adds that extra immersion everyone keeps talking about. For example, looking into corner and being able to judge the distances with higher accuracy when compared to a flat screen. You also get better visual perception of what the car is doing mid turn. I noticed some of my newbie friends, could not drive some of the more powerful cars in iracing on flat screen, but with VR it felt like somebody else was driving all of the sudden ))

Yes I had friends round the other night and one of them had never played a racing game but was putting in some good lap times within 10 mins so it certainly makes you faster quicker I would say .

Although i love my VR experience and could never go back.
I myself have the Oculus Rift and noticed the far distance issue that i am sure we all have experienced. when in race i look far down the field and plan ahead. so in that aspect. its about equal. as far as motion i do regret i made a seat mover so only the seat is motion. So minimizing force is a bit of a challenge.
i have plans to upscale soon . i wanted to 2dof seat mover to get the knowledge and experience with what was available. now a new design is in the works and thoughts about how to integrate the thought of realism.
always looking for a better ride.
