Hi there my name is Jeff I live in Canada and am employed as a Nurse Practitioner. Recently I purchased a Thrustmaster T300 GT over the Christimas holidays and started my journey into sim racing. Im hooked like most others. I initially built a simple table to mount my wheel and pedals to in front of the TV. However I soon found this site and lets say I'm completely down the rabbit hole now. As Im completely new to this type of project I will need to rely on the extremely smart sim racing enthusiasts posting on this site. Lets just say I am very impressed with everyone's work and how dedicated you all are. So here we go. I'll start posting my progress alone the way. Any constructive feedback and suggestions are welcome. Cheers.

Goal: 2Dof motion sim with a moderate budget ($700) minus what I already have

Components: Wood and MDF base with metal seat frame, x2 HP server power supplies ($35)ebay, Chinese Ardunino ($5)ebay, x2 Monstermoto ($5ea) ebay (plan to run one power supply and one monstermoto per motor), x2 wiper motors from Ford 3/4 ton trucks (have not removed yet but will post pics when I do) I also have two wiper motors from an old large service van I can use and will also post pics if I remove those), I also have a U-joint from a ford 3/4 ton truck I will use, JEGS poly racing bucket, TT electronics hall effect pots 6127V1A360L.5Fs(Mouser)

Timeline: I'm in no rush so I hope to have this up and running by the end of the summer

    Cheers guys

    Jeff

Would like some suggestions on how to couple the pots to the motors? I see so many different options however would like the most reliable. Don't want to ruin anything.

Made a little headway with the cab of the simulator. Had a old single arm monitor mount and 24" Asus gaming monitor that I will use for now until I purchase the Rift. Ignore the computer chair. Was using it to give me an idea of seat height. I'm heading to the border to pick up my JEGS poly seat this upcoming week. As soon as some of the snow melts here I'm heading to my inlaws to grab the wiper motors and ujoint. Still waiting for the electronics. Shipping takes forever from China. lol

Ended up doing a little more work on the project. managed to paint the cab and carpet the base. I ended up installing some carpet spikes I had around just in case the base moves around with the motors. I also used a hole saw and installed some holes in various places to make the wiring neat and tidy.

Question. When you download a plugin package for the week do you keep the plugins or do they expire in one week?

No the plugins do not expire, the plugins remain valid unless a game update breaks them at some point in the future.

So I ended up getting my wiper motors. They are from an old school bus that was on my father in law's property. They are 12v Bosch motors . Cleaned them up and painted them. They work with when hooked up to a 12v battery. Green to negative red to positive. Question. What is the black wire for and do I need to ground these motors like suggested in other posts. Also is there a right and wrong way to mount them to the rig? Suggestions welcome. Cheers .

Made some more headway the past week. Fabbed up some mounts for the motors and mounted them. They already had arms on them. 50.8mm to the mounting point. I'm wondering if they are long enough? I also picked up a bus bar for my wiring. Figured it would make things easier and looking clean . I also tapped into the back side of motor and inserted some rods to mount the pots on. Slowly coming together. Comments or suggestions welcome. I'm having issues uploading the pictures. I'll try with my next post .

Sorry. Here are some updated pictures. I'm starting on the seat frame this upcoming week. Going to be one inch square tubing. I also acquired a smaller ujoint and cleaned it all up. The 3/4 tob ujoints were way too big . When I finish the seat portion of the project I will post pics .

Question .Do you think the motor arms are long enough ? Its 50.8mm when measuring from each mounting point.

Did some more wiring. I ended up testing the motors with sim utilities .I don't have my pot mounts fabbed up yet or my couplers. I did however spin the pot and the motors move .I assume that's a good sign so far. I'll post my progress as I finish up the testing phase. Orders from China are painful to wait for .Lol . Hopefully the final pieces of my orders come in this upcoming week.

Mounted my circuit boards and finished some more wiring. First tested both motors on one moto board and both spun when manipulating the pots. I plan to wire one moto per motor hopefully tonight and update my progress. Still waiting for my couplers.

Question. How do I upload videos larger than 9mb? Seems I can only compress my test video down to 35mb. Is there a way to have my upload limit increased?

I also worked on the seat frame this past week as well. It's rough right now. Still need to grind the welds and paint it. Jegs seat feels good. May need to buy the cover for it at a later time. I will post pics when I mount it. For anyone who wants to know. I used 1/2 inch square tubing. It's a tank. No flex at all .
