I am willing to pay a 100 bucks for fully working motion cancellation that works at least with steamVR (vive, pimax 8k, lg hmd). I dont think oculus rift is doable since it uses proprietary driver. I guess there are few enthusiasts here that is willing to pay more than me. I think you should provide him a list of us that might be interested, who knows he might be interested enough if there is many of us. Maybe open up a polling thread here.

I am stuck with CV1 so at the moment i was thinking of using trackIR with ultrawide monitors mounted on the simulator. Either that or wait for a new viable HMD that uses openvr. Still weighing the pros and cons.

Here is a dumb question: Did any of us Rift users try running Rift through ReVive without the cancellation plugin to see if maybe SteamVR doesn't suffer from the tracking issues the Rift software does?

I mean, we will still want proper motion cancellation to get rid of the incorrect ratational tracking, but if this works it would at least get us back to where we were, translational movement is cancelled out by the on-board Rift camera and we only have to suffer rotational tracking errors.

On another topic, Did SteamVR add an equivalent to ASW yet? The other problem I had with my Vive vs. Rift was that low frame rates were a much bigger problem on Vive and I can only guess that this was the reason.

I'm happy with rift cancellation on assetto and aside from the flickering iracing is working somewhat ok. On the flip side project cars is being forced to run in oculus somehow even though it's a steam purchase. I can tell because it fires up in steam but then seconds before launching it switches to the oculus grid and then into the game. This causes the motion cancelation to not work and I can't open it in revive because it's not an oculus game on my comp.

Am I missing something ? Despite having only a 2DOF I feel zero value of running motion without cancellation. Can you somehow open steam games with revive to ensure openvr keeps running?

Yes you will need to use Revive.

I guess I did a poor job explaining my issue Noorbeast; project cars won't launch in revive for me, all downloads for oculus launch without issue, however even though there is an icon for dirt and pcars the steam bought titles don't launch (assuming because revive is designed to give access to oculus games as their singular objective) so I'm asking for a workaround from someone who's solved this issue other than simply re-purchasing games from the oculus store.

I am a bit confused by what you are trying to explain, are you launching Pcars through Steam where you have the option to choose which VR runtime it launches with, or is the issue launching a Steam Game via Oculus Home?

My issue is in revive, while games from the oculus home side of things play in revive for me, games purchased and downloaded from steam do not. Might be a localized thing who knows, so I'm trying to find someone who had the same issue as me and solved it and figured this would be the best thread to find someone who shares this issue in revive or point out the dumb mistake I'm making or step I'm skipping.

Hey now, there's an interesting thing eh? I've only tried running this on my steam version of Dirt Rally and it doesn't work. Also the game is super laggy when running it through ReVive (but silky smooth using native Oculus support).

So it looks like buying Dirt Rally on Oculus store might fix it? I also have Assetto Corsa but I bought that through Steam too. =(
Now I'm going to have to try it on DCS World, via the standalone version which I what I normally use. Next is X-plane 11, I'll make sure to buy that standalone too!

I'm getting a little bit excited, this could explain why a couple people got it to work, maybe they were all using non-steam games.

Only problem is paying $40.00 for a game I already have... that royally sucks. I can't spend that kind of money with impunity. =(

I'm not really understanding this "motion cancellation", can someone maybe explain me why is it important when using with VR?

I have Vive and used it on my 2DOF seat mover, I haven't really noticed anything wrong, except for Dirt Rally being more heavy on the eyes than other games, probably because all the sudden elevation changes, corners and different pace comparing to track racing.

Motion cancellations tracks the sim and subtracts the motion of the rig from the VR HMD view. With small axis movements you can get away without motion cancellation, but it will make a significant difference for sims with large axis movements.

@prodigy I will explain as simply as I can. I will give an example or two.

With the motion simulator when you accelerate hard the sim tilts backward to simulate acceleration. Without Motion cancellation the VR software see's that your head tilted to look upward. Your head actually automatically tilts down to compensate BUT your feet are now in the dashboard instead of down on the floor!

Same thing goes for roll and yaw. Translational movement on sims that have it is even a much bigger problem. Without any solution at all for this when I go over a bump my head goes through the roof, or down on the floor of the car!

Behold my epic art skills! (see attachment for a really bad diagram I made)

Trip, have you run Assetto from steam with "OpenVr Early Support" selected in the AC graphics options? I'm having success running the VR cancellation naitively in steam through the route with very little artifacts.

I'll give that a try, I think I have to install Assetto Corsa first. Have you tried Dirt Rally at all? How about standalone games that are neither Steam nor Oculus store?

Only iracing, which also "works" but has edge flicker and much more latency when running through openvr (iracing without runs solidly above 90fps on my 1080).

Dirt I own on steam but it makes me nauseous in VR so since ditching the triple screen/ static rig setup I had little interest in adding motion (only been doing vr for 3months and motion for 1).

@Limongi - Your comment on DiRT.
Have you disabled the "Head movement" in the game? Like you, with that, I go green in seconds. When it's off (and in motion) it's perfect.

On the other hand, DiRT is so "violent" in its movement that you may well feel sick even with that off if you have no Sim motion.

I'm the same in AeroFly2 - I don't get fully nauseous without motion in that game, but I do get a bit "clammy" after prolonged play :)

Good point Archie, that may just be it as I pretty much did one full run of pikes peak and ended up so green I felt it the next day and don't think I returned to it. The hairpins combined with the whole "wow look over there!" Excitement you get when you first race in VR was intense.

Limongi, is there any chance you can test the standalone version of Dirt to see if you can make it work? I would hate to buy a 2nd copy of the game only to learn it is still impossible to make it work.

I get nauseous just thinking about it! But yes I will try tonight to get you an answer, Saturday at the latest (have to build motion profile for it still).

Note that I Have this purchased through steam, is your copy through the oculus home store ?
