Goodnight friend! Do you have any forecast of when will be available to assemble this project?

    @RufusDufus

Hi Rufus - just found this discussion

cant believe first the SMC3 and now this ! - do you work as a control systems engineer ?

can i ask why you chose to use a stepper motor over a synchro AC motor ? was it price ?

could a DC motor be used with a pot and hbridge a bit like we do on our motion sims ?

The controller for AC motor is very expensive so the servo motor of the current DD comes out cheaper.

And DC motors do not have good torque to function as a DD.

When the Step motor is left over, however, the vast majority of stepper motor controllers no have torque control or current retention, the big balcony of it was to develop a drive with this solution making the stepper motor viable.

I was studying some drives that have current control in real time to develop a solution for me, but it already has the solution ready. I'm in doubt if I get a solution from him or I might develop mine just for fun.

if the dc motor has no torque - fit a gearbox as long at the inertia of the parts is low then the user will not feel the gears and their weight

most of the logitech stuff uses dc motors and gears - what is the problem with them ?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

auotomotive starter motors can deliver 36n of stalling torque !!

I am a qualified electronics engineer and spent much of my early career developing products. These days just management and reporting so I do these projects to satisfy my engineering interests. I chose the stepper motor because I had one for testing and liked the challenge of designing the controller for one. Parts were readily available and yes relatively low cost motor.

Yes a DC motor can be used and has been. Check out @Alexey's post https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/diy-ffb-steering-wheel-mmosffb-in-progress.7769/

Hi. I've benn looking for an affordable way to build a direct drive wheel for a while now and your board seems to be the perfect solution. Would it be possible to buy just the plans (layout and code)? I have all the equipment for making the board at my university.

Hello. I took notice of this project several months ago at iRacing forums, and found it very interesting. No more updates were posted there, but I remembered it last week, found my way here and the SSW web page, and saw that it's alive, and it has improved! What users tell here is very encouraging, seems to reap the benefits of direct drive. Even with its limitations due to its price target, this could even outperform a CSW v2.5 wheel that it's more expensive!

I have a long shopping list made in Ali Express with the components for building a unit. I would like to post them so people who went through this could verify them and tell me if I'm targeting the right parts, but I know I can't do it yet due to lack of posts. Also, I would like to ask RufusDufus to please add me on a waiting list for the next batch of boards when they are released. I guess that then I could add to the shopping cart a cheap stepper drive, just to build everything and see if it's working as it should?

    Cheers!
