    Hi from Portugal.
I'm not planning to build anything for now because I have no time neither room for it (and money have others priorities).

However, I love go-karting and used to do some runs with friends in a rental kart tracks.
I've seen some karting games that looks crazy realistic and than I've seen some kart motion simulators too. Wow, that's insane and make me want to built it myself.
Some day it will happen but now it's not the day...

    Welcome @miglea85.

There have indeed been some interesting kart based sim projects:

    https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/2dof-motionkart-with-arduino-motomonster-wipers.6481/

    https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/2dof-motionkart-with-arduino-motomonster-wipers.6481/

And there is an existing motion plugin for KartRacing Pro, plus games like Rfactor2 and Project cars have karts you can drive. So when that magic day does come where you want to build your own kart motion sim you will find plenty here to get you started.

    Hello everyone!

Another noob here. I'm Razz, 52 years old from Sandy Eggo, CA. I am looking to get serious about sim-racing after playing around on a friend's iRacing setup. I'm still looking at equipment and trying to make a choice that I'll be happy with for a while. I don't currently have anything except the computer I'm sitting at now. I plan on building a dedicated PC just for racing. I'm a fairly experienced fabricator and am looking at ideas to build my own rig from scratch. So far I'm leaning towards a Fanatec CSL wheel base to start. For pedals, I'm undecided. I do have a spare set of Wilwood pedals in the shop and if I can figure out how to link a hydraulic pressure sensor to USB, I may just build my own pedal set.

I also race dirt-track oval in the non-pixelated world. Currently involved in dwarf cars. Dwarf cars are 5/8 scale replicas of 1920-1940s hot rods powered by sport motorcycle motors. Very fast, very nimble and very agile. With a minimum weight of 1000 lbs, the 7-inch wide Hoosiers are providing a ton of traction. They're very similar to Legends cars (Dwarf drivers will tell you that the Legends series copied the dwarf car concept)

I also have experience with Sprint cars, IMCA modifieds, dirt late models, street stock and pony stock all on dirt. In a perfect world, I'd like to find a sim that is realistic to the dirt track experience. I've tried quite a few and been disappointed.

I hope to learn from everyone's experience here on the forum and have some fun.

Greetings from Keith in Oregon in the United States.

In the 1980's I worked for a flight simulation company which simulated full cockpit on a 6DOF motion platform.

In the early 1990's I drove a road race car in club racing.

For several years I have been a crew member of a professional road race team. I deal with their data acquisistion system along with having several other crew duties. As a present from the team I was given a couple of sessions in a local professional race car simulator -- iRacing, Oculus Rift VR headset, motion platform. I was thoroughly disappointed with my driving performance. In analyzing the data I was 10mph under in every corner because I could not feel the car underneath me -- I could not feel the G loading. I checked as many motion simulators as I could find in the marketplace, in the project gallery here, and the project gallery on x-sim in Germany. No one is simulating the feedback I desire so I am designing my own seat to simulate G loading on the driver.

    Welcome @KeithW.

It is difficult to simulate sustained 5-10Gs, which are often generated in F1 cars and fighter jets, outside a centrifuge. A traditional simulator will likely only generate a momentary 2Gs or so. Gseats and the like can generate sustained pressure to somewhat emulate a G force. Quality peripherals like direct drive wheels and VR can help the simulated illusion of road feel and being there.

I look forward to hearing about your Big G project plans.

Thank you for the welcome. I have tried a direct drive wheel, amazing, but am starting with a cheap wheel. And I'm starting with a cheap VR headset solution. Since I have access to real GT race car data I know I only need 1.0-1.5 sustained G's for those types of cars. And even if I cannot in the end generate on the body that much force I will simply fall back on my adage -- you must give the driver feedback they can recognize.

Hi all, I'm Dan from England.

I've been playing with VR for a while and decided I wanted to build a driving Sim. Didn't have a clue where to start until I found this forum and the joyrider plans which I've just purchased (my welding skills are none existent so I was pretty happy to find plans made from PVC tube as I work for an industrial plumbing supplies company so access to materials and cost is pretty good for me! :))

I'm also a qualified domestic electrician but I have little experience with smaller electronics/robotics so I'm probably going to get a bit stuck when it comes to getting the motor side of things set up. Time for a skim of the old FAQs!

    Intended build:

2DOF PVC Joyrider-style gimbal frame modified for racing wheel/gear stick and mounted monitor for games that don't support VR.

Probably going to be an arduino/motor monster setup for two wiper motors as it seems the easiest for a beginner.

Looking forward to getting stuck into this build in the next few months and the community on here looks first-rate!

    Welcome @HeathenDominion.

A joyrider is a nice rig, but it is more suited to a flight sim than hard core racing rig. I want to politely let you know that an unfortunate side effect of your enthusiasm when doing multiple two word congratulatory posts on other members threads, is that you risk getting reported and even banned from the forum.

Please be aware that such posts add nothing to the thread information, the thread builder does not get reputation points as you have not used the supplied emoticons and it pointlessly pushes other more relevant posts down the thread list.

Please see here for further information regarding community etiquette: http://www.xsimulator.net/community...ng-appropriate-credit-community-etiquette.53/

    Good luck with your project.
