Yoder's Rift-minded 2/3 DOF racing sim

    Hey everyone. I'm in the planning phase of my first sim. I'm going for a full frame setup, with no monitor mounted since it's intended for HMD use. Having owned the DK1, I can say that sim racing is on a whole other level in VR. There's no going back to a monitor (for me at least).

    I'm trying to keep my costs down, while using mostly off the shelf components. I'm pretty comfortable with Arduino coding, h-bridges, and tuning PIDs, so I'm going to try to use my Arduino as the brains of the sim.

    For drivers, I plan on purchasing low cost H-bridge drivers, and using the Arduino for PID and serial string parsing from SimTools.

    Shoulder mount is best for overall weight movement but it means a longer frame and wider. Like the back being 850mm wide and extending back another 300-400mm from the seat at the back. I built a full frame shoulder mount for a mate a while ago, it was 850mm wide and 1.85m long.
    Foot mount is more compact, and mine has tossed 130kg driver around no problem. Mine was 1.3m long and 600 wide from memory
    Either doesnt really affect gearing choices as long as you are not planning more than 45mm CTC throw.
    Robs seat mover shoulder mount is 65mm CTC levers, but hes uses an actual small amount of throw of the levers. He is using the longer levers for speed. And being Seat mover, he is not moving a full human frame.
    Your frame is fine and will be good in action.

    Thanks, that helps quite a bit. You bring up a good point; how much of the motors range should I use? +/- 30 degrees?
