It is hoped that X-Plane VR Beta testing could start as early as next week.

See here for participation criteria and application process if you want to be one of the lucky few: https://developer.x-plane.com/2017/12/private-vr-beta-testers/

    Well darn. Now closed:

UPDATE: After receiving around 70 requests, we are closing applications for private beta testing at this time.

I posted the testing invite as soon as I saw it @Zed, in the hope that some here would jump on board, as my sim is still at my father's place and I am way too busy with other projects at the moment to do any testing.

Oh well, hopefully we will hear soon enough how native X-Plane VR is, and soon after get to try it out for ourselves. I am staying with my dad over Xmas, so fingers crossed for an Xmas X-Plane VR update.

On the plus side they are moving into beta with regular users so that’s good news!

If it hits soon, and I get the chance to check it out before you, will let you know. Mostly I’m curious about performance since FlyInside has so many features to it. Mouse cursors are a bit problematic at times with FlyInside so hopefully native VR support fixes that too.

We'll see, though. FlyInside sets a high bar but being able to build support in may get some higher frames and a menu system in VR. Any sim where I have to switch between VR and looking over at my monitor causes problems for me since it’s hard to make out the menu text from where my rig is. It’s not far but is just far enough...

I would recommend using this beta version on a fresh install of xplane 11. I tried to go back to using flyinside with this beta version for vr and the view is distorted and essentially does not work. May be a config issue my end that I need to sort out but worth considering to save too much messing around.

My 86yo father, who is the oldest student pilot in Australia, thought X-Plane 11 in VR was an awesome Christmas present.
