I plan to use x-sim networked, I have a Intel Centrino laptop which I am going to run x-sim off and rfactor will be running from my gaming PC.

Can X-sim work over a wi-fi network or does it have to be 100Mbs or 1000Mbs?

    Thanks,

    Paul

I do not recommend using X-Sim with Wireless networks. This is not due to any limitation of X-Sim, but the high packet latency of wireless networking. Companies that sell wireless networking equipment always mention the overall bandwidth of the device, but almost never mention the latency of their equipment.

Latency is the amount of time that it takes for a packet of information to travel from point A to point B. All wireless devices that I am aware of have a much higher packet latency than comparable bandwidth wired devices. X-Sim sends many small packets of information between the sender and the profiler. This increased packet latency will cause less than optimal performance at the least and in some cases will cause unacceptable performance.

Also, wireless devices have a much higher packet retransmission ratio due to communication errors. While the protocols correct for this, it can still dramatically increase the time that it takes for a packet of information to travel from the sender to the profiler.
