I was talking to a colleague and they commented that they always thought that a surge/yaw system would be the best set up for a 2 DoF set up. It got me curious, is there a reason pitch and roll is the industry standard? Is it just because it is easier to implement because they are both rotational about the same point?

Actually the most important for a racing sim are surge, sway and heave.

Pitch and roll can be accommodated in a racing sim, but are not mandatory, though they are crucial for flight simulation.

Yaw is only really important for helicopter simulation and somewhat for flight sims.

For a racing sim traction loss is very popular and quite different from yaw, as the pivot point is right at the front end of the simulator.

I am over simplifying a little bit, as a good motion profile also needs to be developed and refined to get the best out of a sim using the appropriate axis/forces: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/steps-to-create-a-motion-profile.228/

Racing sim: roll can be also used like an additional effect when driving over the curbs. All other axis as @noorbeast has explained above.

I think that a bit of pitch is recommend, specially if you like Spa at monza like I do.

Hi everyone! I'm currently learning on how to modify the plugin.. Can anyone teach me how to get surge, heave, and sway value from orientation and acceleration value from the telemetry data? Any help is appreciated.. Thanks!hug:

wow, thanks for your fast response noorbeast!:):) actually I have already read the guide, but I'm still confused as how the algorithm for getting the heave, surge, and heave value works .. Can you give me some link so I can learn the algorithm.. I'm using SimTools as the software for my research on car simulator and my lecturer nags me as how those three values comes from.. Sorry if this is actually common knowledge or something :(:( .. :sos:sos:sos

Examples for the different approaches are downloadable from the plugin tutorial link.
