why actuators instead of spindle for 2dof

    My Motion Simulator:
    2DOF, SCN5
    It seems that almost all 2DoF builds rely on two linear actuators (or wiper motors as actuators) on either side of a u-joint mounted seat to tilt side/side. Why is this preferable over a seat/platform that's mounted on a spindle running front-to-back that rotates via a single DC motor? The second option seems like a simpler, cheaper option.
    I'm sure there's a simple reason for this, but it escapes me.

    Are you forgetting the 2nd DOF, pitching forwards and backwards? A spindle would only be 1 DOF.
