Question What types of 6DOF systems are there? Is this independent 6DOF?

I am currently looking into the various ways that 6DOF platforms are constructed and do get Hexapods or Stewart platforms. Are there any other practical types? As a side-question: Are these fully usable for games with the existing software (that is: does the software allow to make use of heave/sway/surge/...)?

I stumbled across DOF Reality's H6/P6 (sorry, can't link) products: These seem to provide a limited way to move in all 6DOF, but the axis in this system seem to be interdependent: It seems that any surge or sway motion requires some movement up or down.

Are there similar designs which do allow independent movements? In this case I was thinking that one could already get better results by attaching each pair of actuators to a rotatable element instead of directly to the frame.

For a non-Stewart design, SimCraft uses a 3DOF gimbal and apparently has a way to laterally move the inner cages on their hinges to add additional DOFs -- or something like that. They claim to have a 6DOF coming out this year, but you can see their 5DOF for an example of how this design works.

There apparently exists another design from R-Craft which I think claims to be 6DOF, but there's almost no details about it other than a handful of videos and articles about those videos which are conspicuously missing a link to a company website where you could find out more. Most searches will just send you to discussions such as this one here.
