    Hey everyone,

I found this forum because my brother in law wanted a race simulator....well..thanks to everyone here, he now has one!! :D

What other projects do you guys like to build, and what other forums do you visit?

I am a big fan of Endless Sphere - http://endless-sphere.com/forums/index.php - these guys are all about electric vehicles, be that cars, or bikes, skateboards or scooters. I've learnt a lot from this place and built 3 awesome skateboards / mountainboards.

Before that I built a segway through Instructables, and an electric go kart.

I'm a big coder, and make mobile apps a lot, and I love the Oculus Rift and have done some development for that too.

I really love interfacing to hardware and robotics....not sure what my next project will be!

I had an initial play with the Rift and Leap Motion VR SDK hoping it would be a cost effective way to marry the real world and VR needs, as it can portray the real sim in infrared and your hands in VR. I was a little disappointed but think I was a little over optimistic. Like the Rift itself the Leap Motion needs further development for VR, like a wider and more natural FOV for your arms and hands, plus more robust tracking.

Agreed! It seems like a great match but it wasn't very natural...then again I haven't played with the Leap V2 SDK which is supposed to be optimised for VR. It will be interesting to see what Oculus CV1 does because they've mentioned an input mechanism. Can't wait for that CV1 announcement :D

CV1 will be a further evolution across a number of fronts, graphics, sound and input, but peripherals for VR still lack traction and I don't think that will really change until the CV1 is released and an actual consumer market develops.

Sounds nice! Do you have videos of your segway or post?

For some reason I can't find my photo's - but I wasn't that proud of it ;) hahaha! It worked, and was kind of fun, but was not pretty at all (a bit like my sim chair!) I ended up taking it apart and used the wheelchair motors on my sim chair.

I followed a few Instructables, but this is the most similar to mine: http://www.instructables.com/id/Self-Balancing-segway-style-scooter-for-under-300/
