The just announce Vive Pro HMD price @ $799 is about the same as the full kit of the the Vive when first released:

The original Vive including controllers and base stations has been dropped to $499.

HTC warned the Pro was really aimed at the corporate sector and the $800 price tag for the Pro HMD reflects that: https://uploadvr.com/vive-pro-hmd-upgrade-800/

Any existing Vive owner planning on taking the upgrade plunge?

They also kinda announced the full pack price : HTC propose the starter kit, which contains 2 stations and 2 controllers (first gen).
Both the headset AND the starter pack are needed to get a full Vive Pro solution, which put the price tag at 1250$.
I personally think this is excessive. I owned a Vive, and a rift.

Even if I find the Vive better than the rift, the difference does not justify the price gap. Then, they propose a solution TWICE as expensive as the first gen, for such little improvement...
Keep in mind it is first gen controller and base stations...

Even If I had kept my Vive, I wouldn't have upgrade : it is nearly the price I paied for a full set !
