I have a 3 DOF motion platform, with the 3rd motor just providing side to side traction loss. The motor is at the rear of the rig, and the rotation point is at the front. I recently bought il-2 sturmovik, a flight sim, and I am wondering if I can configure the traction loss motor to work with any axis used for flight, like yaw?
I already tested it out with traction loss on extra 1, set to 100% and when I start flying it just moves me over to the right and stays there, but I don't get any movement after that even after using the hotas at all 3 axis.
Is it not possible to use the motor in the type of set up I have for flight related movement?
    Thanks!

Not all plugins support Traction Loss, with IL-2 sturmovik, understandably, being one of those, it provides pitch, roll and yaw, surge, sway and heave. Extra1-Extra3 in the IL-2 plugin are the angle rates (°/sec). So in this case you can use Extra1 and 2 angle rates instead of traditional roll and pitch. Your TL should be configured with yaw.

@noorbeast I think this is what I currently have set up though. I have the motor that I normally used for traction loss (axis 3) set to “yaw” in my assignments. But it slides to the right and stays there with no further movement.

Can you please include a picture of the Min/Max settings while the game is running.

I would not suggest using smoothing or any filters until the base profile is working as expected, as that only complicates the issues.

That seems odd, as it shows Input from yaw and nothing else.

The plugin supplies Extra1-Extra3 as angle rates (°/sec). Try configuring Extra 3 to traction loss instead of yaw and see what happens.

Ok I will give that a try @noorbeast but just to be sure, in the new simtools there is not "extra 1-3" in the axis assignments page. So do you mean for me to set Axis3a to be the 3rd "not used" in the dropdown in my screen shot?
And if so should it still be set to 100%?

Best to check with @yobuddy how the IL-2 plugin is implemented in v3, but the Extras do exist in the Tuning Center:

Try using Heave Rate (Extra6) for the traction loss axis. (as i believe it is miss labeled and it should be Yaw rate)
I can fix this soon too!

I think he is paused which causes the outputs to zero out.
Except yaw outputs as 0 to 360, so we have to output yaw - 180 which results in a -180 for yaw on zeroed out.
I can fix this soon, but won't affect anything I believe.

thanks for the suggestions @yobuddy , when I switch it to heave it does better then before but its still not right because pulling up on the hotas stick makes me slide to the right axis3a motor, and pushing down on the stick makes me slide to the left. It doesn't seem to be associated with rotating the stick (yaw)

ok @yobuddy , so setting axis3a to Heave Rate in the axis assignment screen I dont see that motor move at all. I have it set to Heave Rate at 100% but nothing from that traction loss motor.

You may need to set the max/min for the input as i just thru something there so it was not zero.
It may be way to high is all.

Hey @yobuddy, I set some values before playing the game (3, -3) and the i started capturing during game play without pausing this time. So looking at these results, do you think the reason I am still not getting any movement from my axis3 motor is because heave rate needs to be set a lot lower? It shows as 0.000362 as the output from the game. Does that make sense? I am not exactly sure what I should set Extra 6 to be

Thank! sorry for all the questions

While the game is running (in a window is easiest) and the plane in the air, click the capture button, and then reset.
Now fly around a bit, and you will see the Max/Min limits automatically filling in.
If you have a few dof's that you do not want to re-tune, you can lock the settings in with the capture options button. (Simply set it to Locked)
This is the easiest way to quickly find good workable limits.
Let me know how it goes.
    Take care,
    yobuddy

    morning @yobuddy ,
So this morning I tried doing what you suggested, and here is a screen shot of the limits I captured. I saved those and restarted the game, but I am still not getting any movment at all on axis3a in game, even when rotating the flight stick. In the "test settings" section of simtools, it does work when i the heave rate, just nothing at all when in game.
