had anyone tried a toothed rack and gear wheel for an actuator drive ?

looks like it could be a lot simpler than a ballscrew drive

i guess the motor will need a good reduction gearbox

costs could be pretty cheap !

i have seen plenty of pole climbing robots that use a wheel and friction

if we had 6 actuators each one would not have that much weight and a friction drive may do the job

the key here is a linear potentiometer to measure the distance and not rely on the number of turns of the motor
