I'm at the planning and parts harvesting stage and would like to build a 2-DOF simulator.

I have bought two steering columns with electronic power steering.

I don't know the exact specifications, but each one needs a 50A fuse. The worm gearing provides about a 15:1 reduction in speed - I'm guessing that the output shaft turns at about 80 RPM.

Has anyone got any thoughts on using these motors?

My initial thought is to research more so you know the exact specifications. Look for part numbers and Google them.

I have previously tried searching for information on the motor (GM/NSK 1407140) and couldn't find any technical information.

I hope to do a simple torque test in the next day or two.
