    Dear sirs,

Pivots are probably required for Motion simulators, sitting under the seat allowing seat to be moved about by a motion unit.

    I have attached a picture.

The pivot I have seen allow movement left to right and back and forth.

This concerned me as when the seat is twisted by actuators that there should be atleast 2-3 degrees circular movement so there is no added stress on the motion unit (Actuators).

Should a pivot be sat on a spindle....

    Kind Regards.

You can use pivots that are made out of any sort of rubber, it can move in any direction. But you don't want the seat to spin, depending on how you build the frame you can stop it from spinning. Look at frex, it's been used for many years with 2 scn5 actuators, 2 stabilizer rods connected with ball joints to help it not bounce and spin around and just move a little on the balljoints.

    I'm doing a system using a spring.
For the idea of the rubber.... I am a little doubtful about her duration.

I have the idea to use such cross joints for my wheel construction. But the cross joint I have in my toolbox for example has play.

I will try to find one without play tomorrow in our local building center.

    @Fahim
you could ask the supplier if this crossjoint has any play.

    regards

    Dear sir,

I have been to the hardware shop where they sell this:

There are different sizes: range from small to large:

I held them in my hand and found out the play is only 1mm approx. Not much.

Is this dangerous to the simulator if there is no play?

You need a cross joint with zero play.

    Dear sir,

There were heavy duty big size at the shop and they had no play. They were for industrial purpose. Very strong. But a little expensive.

What happens if thier is play.

    @ egoexpress
Youre idea fore your wheel using crossjoints
Crossjoints have a catch:using them on a angle youre getting sinuswave movement out going axis
Using 2 crossjoints sinuswave movement will be gone(big angle big sinuswave)
And give precise the same movement
    Cheap crosjoints surpluscenter.com
    regards AD

The play is increased as you get far from the crosjoint to bigger radius. In a distance of 1 meter you may measure 5mm play!!! Not good! You will actually feel the rotation effect!

I would think the use of rod ends would eliminate the stress you are talking about.

That is what i plan to use..

as for cross-joints i used a driveshaft taken from a large chevy truck...

has built-in grease nipples for lubrication and is easily fixed if broken....

I agree with MoHawk24. A Unijoint of a drive shaft is a good idea imo. You should be able to pick something like that up for very little money...
