These forums are full of information about building an SCN5 based simulator. You do not have to re-create the wheel. Several of us who have already assembled SCN5 based simulators have chronicled our journey. The trick is finding these posts. The following threads will bring you up to speed quickly and help you to understand your choices, design trade-offs, etc.. Taking to time to read each of these threads will allow you to learn from the experiences of those before you and possibly avoid some costly mistakes.

    1.) SCN5 Software Thread - http://www.x-simulator.de/forum/scn5-software-thread-t1084.html
    2.) SCN5 Hardware Thread - http://www.x-simulator.de/forum/scn5-hardware-thread-t1083.html?hilit=scn5 hardware thread

Also be sure to read through the Wiki and X-Sim manual!

Once you've read through these threads, you will probably only be a clarifying question or two away from understanding how/what you want to build!

    Happy reading / building!

    Almost.

-These don't look like the right plugs (I will have to check on this)

-We use the internal plugs on our simulators, but for DIY use I would suggest mating to the plugs provided on the exterior of the SCN5's.

-The diode is recommended. However, I am not of fan of using the kill switch in this fashion (although most X-Simmers do). Pressing the kill-switch when connected this way causes the SCN5's to stop and hold position. Suppose that a child were being pinched by the simulator in some way. You wouldn't want it to stop and forcibly hold position. You would want it to stop and go limp so that you could easily move it by hand!

With regard to the software, if use the SimXperience Commander for X-Sim, you will be up and driving in less than 5 minutes. The Commander was purpose designed to take the complexity out of getting started with X-Sim.
