I purchased a license and I am attempting to register SimTools 2.0 for hours, however, when I run the registration.exe the program returns a "no internet/internet connection required" message. But the connection seems OK with other software.

In addition I cleaned Simtools 1.2 also manually. I have turned off firewalls on the pc and router. I've uninstalled SimTools 2.0 rebooted and reinstalled no, it is not open in the background). I uninstalled Microsoft Net und reinstalled version 4.0.

I run a Windows XP system (due to the complex project an update is no option) - how about compatibility with XP?

    Please advise...

    Thanks and best regards, Harald

...I checked the registration.exe of Simtools 2.2 on another "Office"-Win7-PC (connected to the same router) and the registration.exe started without any problems....
If I cannot solve the problem on the WindowsXP-PC (with the sim) I have to use a 2 PC-setup. Still hope for a suggestion resolving the issue.

Windows XP has to be completely up to date for it to run .net 4.0 correctly.
I completely tested SimTools v2.2 on a xp machine 3 days ago.

One question, are you on a wireless connection?
Or have 2 nic cards in the PC?
If so, use a cable connection for the registering and maybe you'll have better luck.
The error you are seeing "no internet/internet connection ..." means your PC is unable to connect to SimTools.us.

I'm sure we can figure out what is going on buddy.

    Hi,

first of all Happy Christmas! Enjoy some relaxing (?) Christmas days ;-)

    Regarding your questions/comments:

no wireless, but cable connection via Linksys Router and Cable Modem. Firewalls are 100% down. Router and Cable Modem seem no problem because another Win7-PC (also connected via cable) has no problem with running registration.exe.

I use the cable connected to an Asus P5N-E SLI mainboard (onboard lan controller). Drivers seem uptodate. I used several software in the past which needed online registration (FSUIPC, FS Force, ApolloMaps, etc) - no problem. Recent Downloads of .net and Simtools are also fine.

I checked several XP forums what can be wrong but no clue so far.. (running Windows XP SP3)

No additional nic card on the board. The only change in the near past was the addition of a "Bluetooth USB adapter controller" for BT-mouse and BT-keyboard....

    Thanks & best regards, Harald

Do you have a wireless/wired usb network adapter you could try?
You only need internet connection for the registering part, then you can remove it.
    Is your date/time correct?

    Hi,
    Date/time is OK.
Today I installed the new USB LAN Adapter: "normal" internet connection works again (screenshot attached as LAN2, onboard LAN is not active). I use the USB LAN adapter connection loading up this text.
Starting registration.exe shows the window again: no internet connection
    :(

    I uninstalled/reinstalled again: .net 4.0, simtools 2.2
I entered https://simtools.us as safe site in internet options.
Firewall is down. Nothing helped so far.

    Best regards, Harald

Personally I would remove ip6 all together.
Its not needed and only causes problems I'm my experience.
I would also disable the PAN network just to be sure.
Are you able to turn off the other networking ports in your bios?
I have to be honest, this one is kinda weird.
Is winxp completely up to date?

    Hi,
    uninstalled ip6 again.
    PAN network completely removed.
    Onboard network in bios disabled.
WinXP SP3 is completely uptodate (tried to update).
New USB LAN Adapter works fine, but still the same problem.

I will give a new PCIe network card a try, which will arrive on Wednesday.

In the meanwhile I will try to setup a new primary HDD with windows 7 only and use the original HDD with all the sim stuff and WinXP as secondary. Assuming that Windows 7 on my Asus P5N-E allows connection for registration.exe (as positively experienced with another PC but not the same MB) I will give it a try. I need the internet connection only for registration.exe in combination with the motherboard I will use, right?

Had never such internet issues in the past 9 years, really strange...

    Best regards,

    Harald

    It does seem strange buddy.
Yes, you only need internet for registering, after that, you are home free.
    Keep me posted,
    Dustin

    Hi,
I can report a step ahead:
as mentioned above I booted from a Windows 8.1 primary HDD and ran registration.exe on the secondary HDD and viola: the registration window appeared - tataaaa!!!!!
I thought all my problems were solved but when I entered email and licence key (I purchased the pro version, sorry if I posted in the wrong sub-forum) a window (attached) appeared that either my email or the licence key is wrong. I checked it several times but still the same message.
I will go on tomorrow - now I welcome 2018 (guess what I wish ;-)

Best regards and Happy New Year, Harald

OK, I will report it there, thanks!

Do you expext any issues when I will switch back after (hopefully) successful registration process to the WindowsXP-HDD as primary disc again and remove the Windows 8.1 disc (which I used for the registration process as primary HDD)? Every step is done on the Asus P5N-E board.

    Best regards, Harald

    Hi,

licencing process now worked under Windows 8.1 on the primary disc (I had a typo in the password) - Simtools 2.2 and the other flightsim software were on the secondary drive.
When switching back to WinXP as primary disc (still on the Asus P5N-E MB) the recently licenced simtools 2.2 told me on the starting window that I still use a demo version and no licence is found (same result using Win8.1 HDD as secondary disc). OK, this attempt did not work and is probably part of your propriety protection when changing the hardware, which obviously works.

In the meanwhile the new PCIe Network Adapter arrived which I immediately installed using WinXP HDD. All other network drivers uninstalled (in bios deactiveated). Normal internet connection again works, but starting registration.exe shows the same problem as right at the beginning: no internet connection found.

I suspect a Windows XP compatibility problem with Microsoft.net or Network drivers, wrong internet settings or a registry issue. Other .exe files (like installing .net files) show immediate connection with the internet. Windows 7 or 8.1 works perfectly which does not help because my flightsim software (steadily grown during the last 8 years) only works under Windows XP.

Can you identify any Microsoft.net issues on the screenshot attached?

My holidays are nearly over now and I am technically far away from using simtools 2.2.

    Best regards, Harald

    Hi,
I was just curious and took an old Office Laptop (Lenovo T60) with Windows XP SP3 / .Net 4.0 and installed Simtools 2.2 and tried to run "register.exe" - same result: "no internet connection" window appears again. "Normal" internet works fine. I tried wireless and cable connection.

You wrote that you used simtools 2.2 some days ago on a winXP PC - did you also check the registration.exe file?

    Best regards, Harald

    @italo4,
I'll pull the XP machine out again and take a look buddy.
