Since returning to the hobby I have gotten back into iRacing (yes, and of course Euro Truck Simulator 2) but have also had AC since it was an Alpha. I used to do some time trials in AC but have not really done much with it since it was released.

iRacing is great for finding serious minded racers but the lack of casual game-play is...well...lacking. I would like to hear from the drivers of AC; what do you use the game for?

    Time Trials?

Racing the AI (and how is it)?

Multiplayer (hard to find matches? Lots of trolls)?

What are your thoughts on the state of this game.

Yes, I can find tons of YouTube videos and forum posts with drivers giving their opinion on the game but I want to hear from the motion simulator crowd (you know; the cool kids, )

I am not a racer, rather I tend to experiment with things. Hence I use AC as a reference testing platform as the physics are really good, plus you can mess with mods.

I do use RSR Live Timing to guide my tuning relative to others, but that is about it in terms of anything that could be considered competitive.

One of the big problems of AC is that the tuning and other critical menus are not implemented for the Rift, so it is pretty much useless for competitive VR game play.

I like the physics, the laser scanned tracks (motion!), the visuals, 3DVision support and a native triple screen support (no other racing game can offer all these features together),
The time trials of AC are a little bit arcade style - I do not like them.
Not bad, not bad! Pretty much better then it was Alpha...
The public servers are always full of Trolls, but there is more and more serious racing around. NTL not to compare with iRacing.
I can smell the air on track...if I am on the rig and I am using my shutter glasses, the loudspeaker is on and the bass shakers are shaking, then then...

*Pit has left the conversation and is driving AC*

iracing is great and will be even better soon but i only get to mess about not race, ever time i have gone to go racing the site has been updating so not thinking that racing is on atm with iracing, like you say its not casual thing to do.

ac i use for the same really but im always messing not actually driving as i never feel its how i want it.

ac is very good for jumping straight in the game tho, quite detailed in the wheel if you ask me but its took me ages to get something from it, just wish when they tested n made the games they would give good setting for wheels.

i ain't finnished a race ive started keep stopping n messing about coz i run the rift n sticking my head out while driving or getting out car standing on the track ! lol

im still trying to get down to 1 min in iracing with the mazda mx5 on lime rock ! lol very close

I'm mainly using AC for hotlapping. Physics and ffb are quite good imo. I think I have spent half of my driving time trying to get "faster than Jim Clark" achievement, under 1:28.5 lap with Lotus 49 in Monza '66. Only got 1:29.1 so far.

Recently I've tried some multiplayer. 95% of public lobbies seem to be empty, but always a race going on somewhere. Not a lot of pure trolls, but always those first turn crashers. Of course every now and then there seems to be one who thinks it's fun to drive front straight in wrong direction and hit everything that moves. But Ive had many fun and tight, clean races also.

Online racing is becoming very good, especially on MR-AB servers (Minorating).

Haven't had any contact this week, driving every evening ;)

Exactly my point, In the beginning, Yes AC was full of hacks and trolls going backwards on track and causing general havoc, Now a days its no where close to that. The Server hosts ban those fools faster than you can get back to the pits and vote the sucker out. (that is if the server host is around to do so) But overall Minorating has made a world of difference.

Imo no other game can touch AC as far as surface details and overall Surface mesh quality. (just fire up 3dsimED3 and look for yourself) Yes the Default PP's kinda suck in Ac but there's always 3rd party mods to fix that.

@f1iceman if it doesn't feel right to you, Change your settings....simple as that. Also, All you had to do for wheel setting's was hit up the AC forum and all your info is there and waiting.....There are Very detailed wheel threads for each brand. What wheel do you have again ?

I really like iracing in that the drivers in the C and higher licence levels are fairly serious and, depending on the series, the community is awesome. However, I am restricted to only one car. Lets not get into the cost of iracing...that is a...well...a different discussion.

Assetto Corsa gives me the opportunity to drive a great variety of cars if not tracks. I am looking forward to this.

On steering wheels, one thing I have been fortunate with is my Fanatec rig, the wheel is always accepted and automatically set up for me. I have had no issues with it at all.

I have the thrustmaster t500 and stock pedals atm
it could be the belt aswell as its abit jerky when switched off when i turn it so i could have the belt 2 tight its quite new tbh.
you can alter the belts on them.
but i got some good feels for it atm but i think

i have also finally just bolted the wheel to the frame :) that might help too.

I have Assetto Corsa since Early Access, it made me come back to simulator games and then made me build my motion rig.
Without AC I wouldn't be playing sim games anymore.

I kind of miss those times where "few tracks / few cars" because I used to know those cars to the bones
Now we got more laser scanned tracks, more cars, plus MODS. A lot of nice cars and tracks.
Best physics, average multiplayer, best VR racing game (didn't test it myself, but it's easily confirmed). To me a must have for everyone who owns a wheel

    PS. Best FFB ever!

PPS. Kunos are from Italy! Some parochialism is due from me

A minor correction, while it is fun to use AC in VR AC devs have not implemented VR menus for car settings and a bunch of other things, so it is useless for serious competitive VR racing. Despite that it is still my go to race game to play with, as other things like the physics are superb.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but just echoing everyone else really.

I've never played iRacing, so I can't compare to that.

However, I used to be a Project Cars Junkie and then Nords came out on AC.
If I want a nice quick race and to put my Sim through it's paces to make sure "it feels right still" then AC is my go to game.
The tracks in Pcars are more varied in my opinion (Azure Coast / US Coast), but I find myself more and more going to AC.

At the moment, I am having lots of fun taking the Lotus 25 (dreampack 3) around Nords over and over.
Also, the Koenigsegg One that @Nick Moxley had a lot of input too, is a beast of a car and Nords is really the only track you can "open it up" on.

In summary. If I want to play, I use Project Cars. If I want to tune my sim and get into details, I use AC :)

(Now I need to be able to drive my pimped Scania truck to Nürburgring in ETS2 and pay the Tourist fee and my life will be complete!!!!!)

Lotus 49 at Monza '66 is the same one I have been concentrating on @Agosky. It's a great, fun car to drive. Your doing well though as I haven't broken 1:30 yet.

Im honestly flabbergasted as to why guys like to run monza 66, its 98-99%% WOT with barely any turns.....maybe you prefer oval racing too ? I dunno, I just dont get it. When they add the Old school version with the banking i could see it being a different story.

It's more about the car than track for me, as I have an Elfin Clubman, and the Lotus 25 and 49 provide the most similar driving experience. I just find them a lot more fun to drive than the more modern cars.

For a casual gamer like myself who would generally only play for an hour at a time on an irregular basis, the advantage of Monza 66 IS the simplicity of the track. Easy to remember the layout so you can concentrate on perfecting driving lines, braking and acceleration points, etc. The Lotus 25 challenge at Brands Hatch is the other I play a bit. Not into the oval tracks personally

The great thing about simulation is that there is pretty much something to suit all interests.

Personally I am not into hard core competition but I know Nordschleife, Monza Silverstone and Bathurst (I am an Aussie, what more can I say) really well, with Nords and Monza being my 2 primary testing and settings/tweaking tracks.

I know you would not flog the types of open wheelers I tend to choose around Nords, but in a sim it is pure fun to see how fast you can go around what is a very challenging track.

Monza '66 may be "boring" track with just a few turns, but it's definetly a handful with Lotus '49 if you want to make fast laps (below 1:30). And I really loved GP Legends back in the days...
I really don't like oval racing, not saying it's easy though.
