Question Printer encoder or Omron encoder?

    Hi, I am new here. I am building a DIY ffb wheel and need help in choosing an encoder. I have an old printer collecting dust and I can use the encoder from that but I can buy the Omron encoder if it is better.

    What is the difference between a printer encoder and Omron Rotary encoders in terms of performance?

    printer encoder x omron

    cheap x expensive
    2150ppr x varied (300,600,1000 etc, better ppr more expensive)
    fragile x solid build

    and if you use 3 phase encoder, and you use emc software, you can replicate the feature of auto centering.

    btw, I use printer encoder and it works great, and not gonna upgrade to omron in near future.
