I am planning to build a 2 DOF racing sim using car wiper motors (or similar).

For software, I assume I need to earn 250 coins to download the main package? Does that include source code? And would I then need to build up more coins to download other plugins, like for arduino?

Just trying to plan things, thanks.

I will spot you some coins, you will get full running simtools, access to downloading all plugins. Ard codes, if you go that way do not cost coins, its just a matter of downloading someones codes form their thread,
No you do not get any source codes for simtools. Its locked up.
and where are you in Australia?
Maybe look at JRKS instead, no coding and easier to set up, even if they cost more
    Dave.

Thanks Dave. I dont mind building up coins myself but I'm just a bit unsure of the software architecture. So does it go like this: Arduino running on circuit board <----> some driver in windows <-----> x simulator software <-----> some game ?

And then the arduino code is C language and is floating around on the forums. But is there a central repository somewhere on the net for that firmware? Like aerial drones have MegaPirateNG etc.?

What about the driver, is there a driver at all or does X Simulator talk directly to the arduino code on-chip?

This build is actually for a friend (in Australia) and I'm just helping with the software side. So I want to go over the code and make sure it all looks workable.

@LegendLength Dave only uses JRK's as he states "don't ask him", no stuffing around with code etc with JRK's, more expensive but no hassles. Good luck. There's plenty of info available from other users

@LegendLength there is some really useful information in the FAQ section: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

A good place to start in understanding SimTools and how it works is via the documentation: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/simtools-settings-tips-and-tricks.18/category

There is also an Arduino related FAQ section, which will likely be of interest: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/arduino.6/category

I'm really struggling to see a basic overview from those pages but will keep looking.

The SimTools documentation is here @Silvano and I consider SimTools pretty easy to configure, with lots of community support to help tweak motion profiles: http://www.xsimulator.net/simtools-complete-documentation/
