I have been getting questions about Pololu's motor controller, the Jrk 12v12 I have recommended before as an alternate to the AMC and dMSHB.

I would encourage anyone trying this controller, and dedicate this thread to those looking for support.
    http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1393

Available fixed baud rates: 300 – 115,200 bps
Available PWM frequencies: 20 kHz, 5 kHz
    Reverse voltage protection?: Yes
    USB connector style: USB Mini-B

That would be great! They can be controlled through the USO with simple serial commands, but a plugin would make it even simpler.

The hardware and motor driver is nothing to get excited about, but I agree that the whole package is excellent!
12A(30Apk) will handle most wiper motors with proper heatsinking.

Pololu is great for their software, ease of use and their documentation. The quality of their products is also very good, although I haven't worked with their mid-high power range.

Some construction picking up big intensity currents. 49A sometimes not
    enough.

    Device-----------IRF3205 N-Ch
    VMax-------------55V
    Current-----------110A @ 25 Celsius
    ------------------80A @ 100 Celsius
    Dissipation--------200W

    In this pololu controller:
    Peak output current: 30 A

    is it to low?

    thx

I think it is fairly obvious: If you need more current than a device offers, you should look somewhere else.

You will fry the AMC/dMSHB before the Pololu, if that is what you mean by coalesces.

ok guys some dumb questions coming
first i am hopless with electronics so i dont want to have to build a pcb so in my joyrider am i right in saying this is an off the shelf contrller that i can use instead of the amc and h bridge that i keep seeing plans for.

    will it work with joyrider?
is it as good as tronics?
looking at the instructions it looks like i nead one for each motor (2 motors in joyrider) is this right?
is it harder to set up than tronics?

ty all in advance for any help you can give i realy want to get this project going.
    pete

Yes, this is off the shelf controller as far as you don't have to make the PCB, solder components and program the chip.
You still have to interface it to computer, put cooling on it if necessary, connect your motors, potentiometers, etc...
You will need 1 for each motor.

This controller is better than the AMC in many aspects. It is much safer to use, great software is included, easy to adjust many things and you don't have to build it.

killibacak: That should cover it. Add a couple heatsinks if the controller is getting warm.

A couple emails to Pololu Support should sort everything out about the Serial Commands, and what needs to be done in the Profiler.

    Hi,
Could I use servo motors instead of wiper motors for moving a chair?

    Thanks,
    Alex

Can you be a little more specific?

I assume you not only want to move a chair with servo motors, but you want to move a chair with servo motors using the Pololu jrk12V12?

    What kind of servo motors?

Have you even read the specifications for the Pololu controller?

    My Motion Simulator:
2DOF, DC motor, JRK, SimforceGT, 6DOF
Im running two Jrk 12v12 usb Motor Controllers hooked back to xsim in uso. Using 900kg winch motors (25A) to drive the chair c/w 5 turn pots (50k) to provide precise feedback. Longest race i've competed in rfactor was a 6hr event and found only little heat sinks plus small 12v fan keeps them running cool.
Sorry for the blurry shots my bad.

    Motor config
    [IMG]

    Basic Chair config
    [IMG]

One of the first videos i shot once i had it all running.

Please dont judge to vid to harshly was only using 1 turn pots which doesnt give enough resolution to the movement, plus i was using a pololu serial card to feed a signal to the jrk 12v12's. Now running 5 turn pots with realistic resolution to the movements and eventually worked out how to send valves from xsim to the jrk12v12's direct at high speed not 9600.
I will right a full post eventually but theres a wealth of information to pull out of my head plus more photos to be taken with the new pots config plus now a digital lcd projector not the tiny 20 lcd.

So if i can help here with these units in particular just sing out.

ok no worries Frakk i think this the right place for this.

    Uso settings for Jrk12v12.
ok first for each axis ya must set the value=value /2 x 1 +0
    8 bit - binary
Im running my units at 115200 8 noparity onestopbit

SimStart ~225~~63~ which sets my motors to center.
Axis info ~225~~a01~ for left one and other set to ~225~~ao2~
Sim Stop ~255~ to stop cards and place them in a state of waiting.

with in relation to which comport to use , the command port not the ttl comport.

I hope this helps some people as i feel these cards would be a brillant item as a plugnplay unit.

    Cheers,
    Robbie.

Great! Thank you very much!

I agree this controller is a great out-of-the box controller, that is why I have been recommending them. Up until now there haven't been a record of it working as intended with X-Sim, but now you proved it is working.

I hope you will encourage many others to try, and don't be so shy about experimenting! :)

Does the Pololu jrk 12v12 use some of the same components as this: http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/706 ? just without the motorcontrol-interface?. Anyway good to have a backup-solution in case I fail with Thanos diy consept. ;D
