Good idea! Treadmill mouse, can detect the movement itself, make a small software to simulate a mouse game handle or inverted built mapping. I remember playing the game used, it will be quite cheap ah.
    Please Programmers
    Carry out

Could we use a small infrared camera module like this with a lens to mount the device underneath a plexiglass panel that the user walks on. I wonder what working area you could get out of a optical mouse sensor maybe even a laser sensor…

I suspect it would not be very accurate and be a limited area.

It would be easier to use waist connected sensors rather than feet to trigger input for a treadmill. Simple momentary switches would do the job in a rough and ready manner.

I am hoping my Omni treadmill will ship in the not too distant future and will happily review its input mechanism when it does.
