I recently purchased 2 Link 3axis motion flightsims. I parted one out but kept the motion base to make either a car sim or another flight sim on it. It has 3 large geared motors with only 2 wires coming out and 2 large capacitors per motor. They draw less then 12amps each and all have precision 1k pots for position feedback and Roll and Pitch Axis also have tach signal generators for motor speed feedback.

Here is my question, which controller should I use? There are so many choices that I have found and my head is spinning! LOL I have messed with the Pololu Jrk on another project so I have a little knowledge of those. I like the12v12 as it would support the tach signal for PID feedback. What other choice would you guys recommend?
I am not a programmer so something that could fairly easily interfaced with FSX or a PS3 driving game.

I am open to any and all ideas for sim choice and what to drive the motors with.

    Thanks
    Rob

spec on motor would help mate.
Jrk for simple 12v at those amps is my suggestion.

No specs found on motor's other than this, they are driven by servo amplifiers delivering 25Vdc and each one is fused at 10A. I want to drive them with a servo signal.

    Thanks

So are the motors 12 or 24 volts?
The JRK is the way to go if it is 12 volts.

Good luck hooking it up to a PS3, unless you can hack the data from the game, you'd be best modding an existing Wheel and pedals to control motors via a control boards - that's for consoles anyway.

    ?
As I stated, 25Vdc at no more than 10amps Does X-sim support the simple pololu motor controllers?

You would need a control board in front of the motor controllers to run the motors.
Not many choices, the Arduino (code still being sorted), K8055 (buggy problems), or Tronic card (hard to find code). As far as I know.
Unless I am wrong, which can be quite often.

Ok, did a quick test tonight. Hooked my bench supply up to one of the motor's. It only takes 5Vdc to move the motor quite fast. 24Vdc made it really fast. Initial start amps was 5a and dropped to 1.03A while moving. I'm thinking a 15amp controller should be plenty. These are large pancake motors attached to gearboxes driving cables. Dead silent which is way cool!

    Thanks for any advice,
    Rob
