    Hey guys,

    The upcoming days I will try to add a 12V or 24V motor (both running on 12V) to a scissors jack:

    First approach, still very early prototype and my second attempt. First I tried to add the coupler at the other end of the threaded rod, but due to the very bad welding of the Chinese scissors I had to tinker a new design. Tomorrow I will try to add the potentiometer. PS: I'm using a winch motor.

    Or a string potentiometer would fit in nice there.... http://www.unimeasure.com/std-a.htm

    I've just done a quick search for "String potentiometer" across the forum and didn't find anyone advising against this type of measurement? If the spring tension is sufficient then it should give good results. But I agree if you can get a linear slide pot in there it would probably be better.

    Hi @Pit could you replace the threaded bar in the jack with the ball screw type thread found in the diy linear actuator would be faster and smoother ?

    It's only for testing purpose, if I would build one for professional use I would use high industrial standard parts. But thanks for your suggestion anyway :)

    That's completely new to me. Slide potis are cheap and effective, unfortunately my 10 cm slide pot is not covering the full range. But almost...video tomorrow or after tomorrow.

    I guess you can use those 10 cm with the linear up/down motion ... not with the lead screw .

    it works, but.........not really well. The scissors jack is just bs, weak, twisted, worthless junk. Though as far you can determine the concept of my (poor) design does it's job, pretty fast and very powerful.

    Nice proof of concept, but just like EBay actuators, they just fall apart. Look forward to see were you go with this - maybe a DIY properly made ballscrew version :think.
