    Hello all,
I just bought a house and decided to eventually build a 2 DOF driving simulator. Lots of planning and research beforehand. In my old apt I had a fanatic CSR wheel, pedals, and shifter setup at my desk. Now I have a whole basement I need to fill up. I love driving IRL and vitual. I used to auto-x a 03 Sentra SE-R in DSP won class regional once and placed respectively in DSP and STX in other years. That car self detonated and now I own a 07 350Z. I now only auto-x the Z on occasion due to fees, time, parts, and just bought a house. Goal is to have a house toy and cheaper then working on my real car. Looking to learn and give back in the long term.

    The basic plans:
    2 DOF simulator
    Extruded aluminum frame
    3 screens
already have a Fanatec CSR wheel, pedals, and shifter
    not sure about sound

Access to tools (not sure if some will be useful)
    Autocad Inventor
    Solidworks premium
    junk flux core welder
    miter saw
    3d printer
    8" drill press

    Games:
    assetto corsa
    project cars
maybe something flying aircraft or space.

I look forward to seeing your project plans.

A 2DOF is about the easiest sim to build. It is also pretty easy to add traction loss to it later as an upgrade.

Good luck with your 2DOF project.

I just chose 2 DOF because it was the most basic. Would it be worth it to change design to 3DOF? Would changing to 3DOF really be that much different designwise then 2DOF?

It depends on your design goals.

A 2DOF is a good foundation. I made passing mention of traction loss because it is a popular upgrade path for those who are primarily into racing sims.
