    Hi Guys,

I've been doing a lot of reading over the past few days on this site and have learned a great deal about full motion simulators. I am about to start my project using my existing Playseat Evolution. I will be building a 2DOF simulator based on some of the designs found here using 2 SCN5 actuators. I will be using the Daventech RS485 to USB interfaces since they eliminiate the need for an RS232 to USB adapter and they were easy to source here in Canada. The company that distributes the SCN5's is also here in Canada and are located about a 15 minute drive from where I live so I will be picking them up tomorrow. I'm still contemplating what material to build the frame out of since I plan to keep the Playseat frame primarily intact so that I can adjust the pedal and steering wheel distance. I believe I can source the t-slot aluminum locally so I may go with that as well since it looks pretty easy to work with.

    I have a few questions:

    1) Is there any reason why I cannot use a ball joint like this one to support the chair base instead of a universal joint or vibration pivot? Reason is that the universal joint would require some welding to modify to fit the frame and I'm not sure how the rubber pivot would stand up over time.

    2) Has anyone modified a Playseat into a 2DOF motion simulator and has any tips or pics that they can share? :)

I look forward to getting this project started and will post pics of my progress.

    Thanks

    ....M

Just picked up my materials to start the build. Should be a fun weekend :).

I would still like to know if anyone has an opinion about my first question above.

    Thanks.
