FlyingIron has just released its incredibly detailed IX Spitfire for MSFS2020:

Just a short user review - the Spit is very nice! Visually it’s beautiful. They built the cockpit from drawings made from a real Spitfire. I don’t know how accurate it is by flight performance but it feels similar to the A2A and DCS Spitfires. With the new UK scenery addition, the Spitfire is a joy to fly over England.

There’s still some bugs. You don’t see airframe icing from the cockpit view except on the canopy, some controls are difficult to actuate using a mouse (mixture, for example), but it’s a very worthy plane. Takeoffs and landings are tricky - Got to be on the rudder and ailerons. You can get lost in it in VR.

I purchased the Spitfire yesterday and confirm that it looks absolutely amazing.

I did not take off yet, because I wasted too much time trying to map all essential cockpit controls to keys.
I don't like using the mouse, touch pad, or VR controllers in a virtual cockpit, because this is really cumbersome when sitting in my rig.

Unfortunately I already failed with the first control I tried, which was the Carb Air Filter. I contacted FlyingIron and got the immediate reply that the MS Flight Simulator 2020 does not support custom key bindings, and therefore some controls (like the one mentioned above) cannot be mapped.

This is too bad because I really enjoy cold starts, e. g. with the TF-51D in DCS. Now I guess I will have to use the automated start-up.

@MarkusB - I got a notice there is a new version of the Spitfire out. Downloading it now. Don't know what the changes are or if it would fix what you mentioned. (Could FSUIPC for FS2020?).

Woke up to the same email, it is a real shame there are no update details, as I actually custom modified the Spitfire flight config quite a bit.

Thanks, @Zed. I also got this mail. Unfortunately the control bindings are not on the list, and my understanding is that this is due to a limitation in the MSFS API.

@MarkusB you can use SPAD.Next to access most of the functionality of any aircraft in MSFS.

Hi, I am a newbie here. I joined to learn and gain knowledge from experts. I am learning to fly (and want to go to commercial flying) but my classes are only twice a week because of work schedule. I would like to learn if I can install a full motion 6 DoF flight simulator at home (which I can practice during non flying hours) and would it be helpful. I live in CA, USA. I want to know which platforms, controls etc are recommended for personal use.

A motion sim adds immersion, as does haptics and G-seats, but in many respects in my view when it comes to commercial flying it is more about procedures, protocols and familiarity with the aircraft. A simulator, and VR can hep with those, while with the flight dynamics quality peripherals should precede other enhancements such as motion.

Don't get me wrong, a quality motion simulator has its place in aviation training, and are used by airlines, but initially consider what gives you the maximum bang for your buck if commercial flying is your end goal.

Hello, it seems to me that good results can be obtained if you combine a flight simulator and online flights, for example in IVAO. There are the same requirements for pilots as in real aviation.
