    Heres one for you!
I have a motion loss issue on axis1 (roll) of my sim. I running 2 pololu jrk 12v12 boards (1 each motor). As you can see from the attached photos I have the settings right - I think.
This is what happens. Either playing GRID or DIRT2 after about 30 seconds into a game, I loose motion on axis1 (roll, lateral force). There is no errors , the frame stays upright. On axis2 (inside-seat) I still have motion. If I go into the math, delete axis1 motion and replace it , it works - for about 30 seconds. I have tried different settings with no luck.
I though it might have been a codemasters game problem. Perhaps not, when I play rfactor after about 5-6 minutes, I loose motion again on the roll axis1. Once again if I go into math and replace the setting it works again for another 5 mins or so.
This is something I hope someone can assist me with please. I am not sure what is happening. I am running the latest version of x-sim, windows xp serv pack 3. And when I game all firewalls and antivirus are off.
    Thanks, David.

Hi, I had the same problem.
    It's not a good thing.

I was running rFactor so no codemaster game.
I was sure I had just a problem with the usb cables but now I feel fear about..

I use win7 and you XP so this is not a SO problem.

And when the problem start so can you notice that the jrk card have ONLY the yellow led flashing slow?(no more green comunication led)

Tomorrow I will make many tests and I'll be more informed about this strange problem.
Last time I had this problem I did not check the jrk config utility error tab, are you sure you don't get some max currency or other errors?

PS. Are you using profiler and sender in one or two pc?
My all in one PC.. Maybe can be a performance break down.. I hope..

    My Motion Simulator:
2DOF, AC motor, Arduino, JRK, 4DOF
for your simulator stop try: ~255~~128~ on both com ports, that works for me with the JRK, plus do you have a fan on your JRK's? Heat sinks? sounds like you might have a overheating issue. WIth a laser thermometer my cards with heatsinks and fan, open air, run about 75 to 85 degrees. Have you checked temp?

also my multiplier is 2-1-1 in the middle for both axis

i would try a profile with just that axis and see if it continues, you might have battling forces.

Do you mean 75/80° centigrade? It's very much!!

Eaorobbie with heatskin and fan was at 45 if I remember and 75 without heatskin and fans..

Good morning all and thanks for the reply's.
Hi Aldoz, I checked the jrk utility, no errors at all. No overcurrent or loss of feedback, nothing. All lights working and flashing correctly.
I am using all in one pc. Specs AMD 965 quad core 3.4 ghz, 880 series chipset motherboard, 4 gig 1600 mhz ram, GTX 460 1 gig overclocked by 19%, 650 watt power supply. I have isolated the profiler to one core.
I have been running the graphics on Dirt2 at 1152 x 720, and meduim detail, just in case it was being pushed too hard. I run rfactor at 1920 x 1080 full detail.

Hi Shannonb, I am running a heatsink and 80mm fan on the jrk, so no chance of overheating as well as fans on the motor.
If you have a look at the bottom right hand corner of the photo, you can see the heatsink on the jrk. There is a gale blowing over it. And when I touch it during use it is barely warm.
Thanks, I will try those settings and also test on that one axis first.

ah never experienced this problem in 18 months, If the yellow LED is flashing slowly (once per second), then either the motor if off (the Awaiting Command Error bit is set) or the jrk is in speed control mode and the duty cycle is zero.
OK sounds like feedback is disconnecting. ???? or what errors are appearing in pololu config.
Ah is usb going into sleep mode, or is integral limit reached. or too big of a voltage drop can cause issues when i used a car battery.
Sorry guys need more info my rfactor,lfs,gtr1&2,race 07,Gtr Evo runs without fault and grid/dirt1&2 srew up all the time(no real good sims so i shelved them, almost bin) :(

    Hi guys,
    eaorobbie your words calm me.
I was start to think that there was a damn bad problem here...

Today evening I will have 5 hour to make many useful tests and I will know exactly all my jrk situation.

    @eaorobbie:
Please can you teach me about? are you speaking about PIN or the 3 number on the USO setting?

@bsft: Ah I was thinking about the fan must be over the heatsink and inside a box to have a optimal refresh but seems your system refresh fine!

    @bsft and eaorobbie:
about the heatsink : what material did you use? did you use thermal paste above the main chip?
I have an electronic thermometer with probe.
Where I have to put the probe in main chip? on center? on the side?

I ask that because I know that in the CPU thermal check with the probe, you never have to put the probe in the center of the CPU (if you put the probe at the center of the CPU so you get not correct temperature data)

Woohoo!!! :yippiee: got DIRT2 and GRID working!! I had to set my own values in the math section. This stopped the motion loss problem. More mucking around getting the settings right but it worked! I also changed the datapacket at simulator stop number to ~221~, and the value changed to 2-2-1. I do not know if this helped though. GRID sometimes still crashes when I go from a race back to the main menu. Dirt2 works fine. The pc seems to handle the lot fine. I run GRID at full stick graphics, which puts a reasonable load on the cpu.
    See pics.
I am loading videos of game play, of the 8 year old kid and the 37 year old kid playing. I will link them in an hour or so.
Aldoz, yes the fan next to the board works well, no overheating, that and I have fans on the motors. As for a heatsink, I used a piece of aluminium I cut in half, put thermal paste on the big chip and sort of secured it with some sealant on the side. It works. A proper heatsink would look better. I do not have a thermal probe. I use the finger temp probe. For CPU, I use core temp and it registers the temp via a diode in the motherboard. FY useless info, my cpu have a BIG cooler on it with two 90mm fans on it. It will still get up to 60 deg c . The computer being in a proper gaming case helps. I have an ANTEC 902, good cooling.
    :D
Thanks again to everyone that helped. Love all your efforts!

Very good that now you get it work!!
you write the value changed to 2-2-1 but in the attached pic I can see 2-1-1

And in the datapacket at simulator stop so if you use just 221 so you do not get anything.
221 is the command that move the motor in a certain position.
255 is the command that put your platform in STOP mode (this is what I know)

If you use just 221 so your command missing the where I have to put the motor?
~221~64 (put the motor in half position)
~221~128 (put the motor in highest position - max platform height)
~221~0 (put the motor in lowest position - min platform height)

Good to see your cooling system works fine as your finger probe too (maybe not too precision but work!) :D

PS: I watched the videos! Really a good work! compliments! :highfive:

Thanks aldoz. At this stage, the settings I have work, so I am not planning to mess with them, unless something goes wrong! And yes I need to learn how to read my own settings! 2-2-1, I mean 2-1-1. :?

Profile Making 101: When you have automatic maximum adjustment enabled, it will do just that. As soon as you crash the car, your maximum values will shoot up to 10G+, under normal circumstances 2-3G is the effective range of most cars. Increasing the maximum value effectively scales down the movement.

Proper way to do it: Drive the car around the track once without crashing, auto max enabled and find maximum g-force for car. Disable auto max and increase maximum by 10-20%, then adjust intensity with sliders.

    great Frakk!
Yes I had loss motion when I crash the car!
And your solution really seems to be the right solution!

    So:
    1) some laps without crash and auto MAX and MIN enabled
    2) back to profiler and mark the max variable values.
    3) disable auto MAX and MIN and put maximum value in gforce1:1 to 20% over the max value
found when we were making the laps!

    THANK YOU!
