The Cosmos in not a tested device so best to get some advice from @Dschadu as the best way to test it.

Best solution would be a tracker that works natively with your HMD.
With OVRMC you cannot mix two tracking systems, in this case Inside-Out (I think some kind of WMR?) tracking and Lighthouse.
The systems do have a different understanding where "0" is in the world. OVRMC does not support this yet.

To answer your other question: If you want to use a lighthouse tracked device, i.e. the Vive Wand, you also have to buy two base stations as the tracking is outside-in, meaning it relies on external sensors / laser.

They do have a vive tracker on the rig you can see, but since they seem to have most of the yaw axis disabled they might just be using the IMU that is on the YawVR. Someone has added YawVR Tracker support to OpenVR Input Emulator. Since it's rotation movements only, an IMU works fine, even for yaw if it doesn't drift bad. I am a little surprised 2dof sims haven't been using something like a wii mote for motion cancellation.

I think people that mix tracking systems use OpenVR-SpaceCalibrator to align the two systems.

The lighthouse face plate for the cosmos and a lighthouse tracker or controller would work best.
