I have a 2DOF + traction loss rig using SCN6s, and I enjoy it quite a bit, but there definitely is some actuator squeal.

Are there some recommended actuators that are quieter in comparison? How do the SFX-100 compare to SCN6 for example?

SFX-100 are on a completely different level than a SN6.

The SFX-100 actuators use servomotors. Relative quiet, fast. The mechanical part can be noisy if not build right.
The SCN6 actuators use stepper motors. Steppers are noisy... period.

Have a look here for better quality actuators.
