Are any of these servo controllers compatible with x-sim, for a more plug and play hardware interface?

I understand that with this solution it will be the software controlling the dc motors and reading out optical encoder instead of a mircochip.

    Hello Wimpo

There are at least two servo controlers in that video that are compatible. Take a look here: mini-servoboard-rs232-microservocontroller-t1101.html It's the little one near to him. And from pololu you will get also the one with the DB9 connector onboard (Same commands like the little one) They are supportet with the profiler2.0 USO. http://www.pololu.com/catalog/category/12

But i have seen another, very intressting thing in this video. The Encoder reader at 3:40. Do you know the type/manufactor of this board? Perhaps (if there also other interested) SirNoname could write a plugin to read data from this board...

It looks nice and fast but you have to implement the servo control on the side of the computer software with this, and I don't know if its wise. The position command delay to the motors can be too high if more than 5ms while the PID servo code requires as fast refresh is possible... Not to mention possible computer failures that can be dangerous on a motion system!

Practically I have made a similar module that consists of two Attiny2313 and running on 20Mhz and using I2C interface that my AMC can read directly! My module can count up to 200000 pulses per second (if combined with a 2000cpr encoder disk attached on a 6000rpm motor).

    Regards, Thanos

    Hey wimpo, dont give up!

Until now, everyone has been able to get it working with

LEDs are diodes, and have a polarisation. Perhaps you've placed it backwards?

the pololu 16 usb controller doesn't seem to work with xsim2 at the moment for myself anyway.
