I think I have all the parts.

    Hello All,
    I've wanted a motion simulator ever since I saw Thanos flying around in his PVC and wiper motor machine 10 years ago. I've collected parts here and there during the intervening time and I'm pretty sure I have enough stuff for a 2dof simulator. I will be using it with a Samsung Odyssey HMD to gain even more immersion. VR rocks btw.
    Here is my parts list.
    2 24v wheelchair motors. (found a wheelchair in the landfill and both motors work)
    2 24v 30a power supplies (these are variable with a max output of 38v/30a)
    2 Arduino 2560 mega boards ($10 each when Radio Shack went under)
    2 potentiometers (same Radio Shack)
    driveshaft end and tie rods
    Do I need anything else?
    I am a teacher at a secondary school career center so I have access to pretty much any equipment I may need for frame fabrication.
    I'm kinda fat (220lbs), will wheelchair motors be strong enough? is there a good guide here where I can find optimum motor placement and throw?
    I'm hopeful I can get something built with what I have or with only a little more outlay. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    You are missing the motor controllers.
    It can be the MM (MonsterMoto) or the Sabertooth 2x32.

    DUDE! I was just checking out your chair. That's just what I want. I was looking at your heave mechanism thinking it looked like a tilt mechanism for an office chair and it was. Too cool. The fat guy riding it answered a few questions as well. My build has to be compact like yours so (like in the education field) I'm going to borrow from your design ;D Thanks for the links as well.
    After perusing the forums here I realized that I posted in the wrong place. Maybe one of the moderators can correct my error...

    I have often said that if I was to do it again I would increase the base size from 500x500mm of my compact sim to at least 600x500mm, to give a bit more design leverage for heave.

    I haven't had anything to design in some time. I did an A-10c simulator with the side panels and a 4 screen cockpit. I took it all down when I got the VR headset last month. I knew after the first 10 minutes that I would never game on a monitor again.
    I guess it's time to break out TurboCAD and get to work. I will probably use steel because I have it. Plus a Plasmacam and all the welding, cutting, and bending tools available. This might be a great project for the engineering, mechatronics, and welding classes. Hmmm...
    I just hope I get to use the new 3D printer we got. Been dying to play with that since it arrived last month.
    If anyone has some DXF files they would like to share I wouldn't say no.

    Hey @Doon1 - just about everything I’ve printed for my rig has been custom. The only thing I printed for it that someone else made was a set of fittings for my joystick extension.

    Autodesk has a program called Fusion 360 that a guy here recommended to me and that’s been my go to program for designing parts. It’s free for enthusiast/home/non commercial use. It has its quirks and isn’t perfect but works great for all sorts of things.

    For the controllers I would recommend you the G2 from Pololu with SMC3, since you plan to run 24Volts PSUs
    I have used them on my design and no regrets. Take a look to my building thread
