The best way is to do it with compressed air in my opinion. You can get a much more responsive wind effect, you can even simulate air ripples.

A fan has to get up to speed to produce the airflow and also slow down to stop the airflow, which can be pretty slow. If you want the wind to be proportional to speed I guess it is not a big issue, maybe when you are braking hard or crashing, the fan won't stop that fast. Using a powerful motor, high RPM, small fins with a minimal overall inertia can be responsive enough, and of course a controller that can also apply braking to the blades is necessary.

Compressing the air on the other hand will give you a lot of advantages. You can get much higher airflow much faster, all you have to do is produce more pressure. With a proportional valve and a pressure sensor you can precisely control the amount of air. Also you can almost instantly (depending on the actuator) turn the valve on or off.

    Just my 2c.

Not long a go there was a tread about this. Using a servo controller with a regulator for RC-Motors was realised there...

    cheers, mbo
