    My Motion Simulator:
    2DOF, SCN5
Hey everybody, the name's Nick McClure. I'm 17 and a highschool student in Louisville, Kentucky. I've been observing racing simulators on the internet for a few years now and I've always been into racing ever since I was little. I've built 2 non-motion simulators using pvc and my Fanatec GT2, Elite pedals, and Elite Shifter . The frames worked out for a little while but they inevitably fell apart due to heavy use.

I've never delved into motion simulators due to their high price range, but now that the prices are started to come down if you can build one yourself, I've decided to finally go that route. Ever since last year when I found out about the Oculus Rift, I've been overly obssessed with creating a motion sim combined with the Rift to create an extremely immersive driving experience. With my funds being low I kept working at my day job and saved up. Fast forward through the struggles and around October 5th (this month), I received my Oculus Rift. To say the least, it has changed my view on the future of technology and where it is heading and has helped me realize what I want to do with my life.

After receiving my Rift and set all of that up, I proceeded to order my Motion Sim parts which consist of (The jist of them): Two SCN5 100MM actuators, Two Devantech USB RS485 converters, 24V Power Supply, SimXperience Actuator mounting kit, Rubber vibration mount (as the pivot) and most of the suggested parts from a few threads I found on X-Sim.de. My frame will be built from 2x2 wood, meaning I'm basing it off of sirnoname's Woodcrusher from X-Sim.de with my own modifications to fit my needs/wants. I've received the actuators yesterday and I've filmed my progress and taken pictures, meaning I will be posting a thread soon showing my progress. I'm excited to be apart of the xsimulator forum and to meet every one else on the forum that shares my same passions!

Hi Nick, congrats with receiving your Rift and welcome. I'm a Rift owner myself and I went through the same process... after using it I just need a motion sim. Although my needs are more for flight/space sims the motion sim I'm creating has dual function, so also for racing. Anyway, looking forward to see your project progress and I would love to race you once we're both done with the sim. Game on!

PS: Watch www.roadtovr.com the coming months, we have something special in the works for Rifters :)

If you can afford SCN5 actuators, your budget is better than mine
