Hi im new on here as im using the x sim and boy am i struggling with all the info.
Well ive had sims from 1990's and triple screen systems but i decided to go motion as it was obviously the best thing i needed to do.
So i bought a frex system as thought it was esay enough to get started and i got it of a lad cheap enough not costing much more than importing two scn5's so i was chuffed.
Until it came to getting it to work ! lol
I have no idea about this site and what or if this is another software base to go on or if its easyer to make profiles and thing s up as i find the other a nightmare.
I dont know where to put my money into atm.

I am quite a chatty friendly person so hope to meet others the same and when i get better at it will help others with things i got stuck with to aid others.

I am just testing and getting it working before it gets packed away for the build i am going to do :)
I have a dedicated shed i am putting in and going to go triple projectors curved screen unless its a bad idea ???
I have 3 old 50" plasma of my old system i was running but projectors fell like ideal as it will always be dark and no bezels must be wicked.
I will also go oculus rift next year and try that too.
    ATM I HAVE !!!
    Shed
Sorting 2x pc build still collecting it tho..
    Got t500rs
    Ferrari add on wheel.
    Got motion frex system
Got 3 x triple old 50" screens (for now)
    Got 1 projector atm.
Got the special cinema screen fabric.
    Got surround sound system yamaha.
Got my home made tactile transducer ( 10" sub !lol boy it moves you ) need to make smallers ones.
Got gaffa tape, zip ties and a hammer so good to go :)

Want to make touring race car style cockpit so lots of dials and bars but first get it working tbh.

Hope your all friendly on here and can help if i get stuck.

My names Keith but go by f1iceman.

Xsim is different software from SimTools and you are in the wrong place if you intend using it. I consider SimTools is much easier to use and setup and it uses less system resources: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/whats-the-difference-between-simtools-and-x-sim.1/

You will find the FAQ section covers many detailed build related topics, including SCN5 conversion related information: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

We have a glossary for all those pesky acronyms we tend to use, which will help you decipher some descriptions: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

Have a look at existing member builds for ideas and inspiration for DIY simulators and associated things such as screen mounting: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

With large triple screens you may want to consider mounting them static in relation to the motion simulator, to reduce the overall mass being moved so they don't impact on the simulator performance.

Feel free to ask questions, the members here give freely of both their time and expertise.

    Good luck with your project.

Hi thank you for the info ive just found that this is called simtools ! lol but was reading lots of threads where they seem to say x sim alot ;-) I actually thought it was an add on to the one i installed as i was struggling with the setup to make it work.
I guess its probably a swear word saying what i have said ! Doh
My screens will be static for first motion sim for now. so nice curved screen if it will fit in my shed :)
I will look into the screens abit more after my shed is prepped ready, I'm nearly done just some insulation left and boarding then lights its away i go with my gaffa tape and hammer :).

Hi Keith. Your confusion is due to the fact that xsim was the software available on this site before simtools came into existence about two years ago. About three years ago the author of xsim wanted to make changes in his software requiring internet access for the free version for diy. Many members here and administration also didn’t really like this idea as requirement and there was a falling out. The author of xsim took his software and started another website. Xsim2 was the last version you could get here. Because of the nature of the breakup, xsim is no longer supported here in any way now.

Hello @f1iceman , use Simtools for sure once you are set up. I used to beta test x-sim motion software and Simtools is heaps better

    Hi Guys

Thanx for the making the history clear as was thinking i was going mad ! :)
I have tried to run this software but fail to find my scn5's atm thru my vscom but im not sure the vscom usb converter is supported as it connects 2 scn5's thru same 2 data wires off each one.
    it finds the com4 tho.
Simtools its does look alot easyer to setup and run tbh.
Im not really up on whats what as yet but im defo going this way as its a very happy site here from what im reading :)
    Thank you
    cheers

Thank you soon as im running on lfs demo i will defo up grade.

I am using windows 10 on my laptop for now ( its not for playing the games but more to learn while i build what im doing).
    I have 2 x scn5's 100mm.
    I have 1 vscom usb-comi-m converter.
    I have traco PSU.
All wired using the longer adpter cables to scn5's (14pin red, black, green, white, brown, and the 4 pin data (red, black, white green).

The system works on dare i say again xxxxx v3 software but im struggling with it. (BIG TIME)
3d force gt would not load before to test so used rock n ride graphic but 3d force profile.

Hope this helps diog getting me working on on here easyer and make me a happy chap in a new world of atm darkness :-(

Simtools 1.3 does not support a usb-comi-m converter. You need one usb to rs485 converter for each actuator. Since simtools has 6 individual interfaces that can be used you put one actuator on interface1 and the other actuator on interface2. On each interface select SCN from the drop down box. Here’s the link to the SCN wiring tutorial for use with simtools. http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/scn5-wiring-tutorial.5566/

Btw, each actuator needs to be on its default channel also as they were shipped from the factory.

    Hi BlazinH
Is it that because the vscom does rs485 but 2scn5's on same channel which is the problem ?
If it take one scn5 off would it still work the one?? it is a rs485 converter ftdi.

Im thinking tho one each is better as i think theres a lag possible going to the second scn5 via data it splits like the vscom does i think. so the way the simtools works is easyer i guess and better to follow when adding actuators.

I have assigned the default zero on one scn then assigned other to 1 to work with the vscom.

I guess i will have to find some usb converters or if the vscom will be ok on one scn i can find another for otherside.

Thank you so kindly for help.

I think the part that i got stuck with which made me think it was not going to work with the the vscom anyway, it was the com port assignment it would not let me choose 2 of the same comport hence the reason of it not supporting the vscom i guess, i take it theres no way around the issue by assigning each scn5 using the same comport to two diffrent interface 1 or 2 via the scn5 channels like i have now.
I dont mind buying but buying for comp atm !lol.
I always like the option if it can be done with what i have be great, but if noway can be done then i will get some of the ones that does work :)
I really need to change to this site sooooooooooooooo much better people talk and help and i will do the same if i can ever with anything as thats my nature to help others if i can.

I even started a new user threat in the other site to give my experience from day one of getting scn5's and working to help others see issues i had getting started.

Yep, as BlazinH already said, you will need a rs485 converter for each SCN5 you want to use. You can find some on ebay at cheap prices.

just one last qestion do i actually need the 5v or can i get one without as the prices here are £30 four wire and about £8 for 3 wire ??
I know its not much but i will have to buy 2 obviously and thats a big price difference buying 2 when money can be put into my computer bits i need.

sorry to sound cheap, but every little helps.

    Cheers

I'm using the Digitus RS485 converter (that have 4 wires) but I'm using only 3 of them, so I think you can!
